Patricia was a great cook with a smile for everyone she met
PATRICIA (Jolly) Kells, from Whitebrook, Whiterock Hill, sadly passed away on February 8 and is sadly missed by family and friends.
Born in 1930, she grew up in Rathmacknee on the wellknown historic grounds of Rathmacknee Castle. She was the daughter of Paddy and Maura Kavanagh.
Patricia enjoyed going out, socialising and dancing as she was a real people person.
She began her working career in Fine Wool Fabrics when she was 16 years old and later married the late James Kells, formerly from Bishopswater.
They had four boys and one girl, but sadly one of the sons, Dermot, passed away 16 years ago.
Patricia spent most of her working life in Whites Hotel. She was there for 13 years working in the kitchen and serving food, and would always have a smile and a kind word for anyone she met.
She was a brilliant cook and loved entertaining friends and family. Patricia really enjoyed the simple things in life and had a great love for animals, especially her three cats – Guinness, Dutts and Ted.
Just before she retired, Patricia became a carer, but unfortunately she could not continue with her work as she became very sick within the last 12 months after being diagnosed with dementia. Her health deteriorated rapidly and she was moved from Waterford Regional Hospital to Kerlogue Nursing Home where she sadly passed away surrounded by her family.
The family would like to give a special thanks to Patricia’s sister, Bernie McCarthy, and her daughter-in-law, Caroline Kells, for their efforts and care throughout her illness.
Patricia’s Month’s Mind Mass will take place on March 20 at 5.45 p.m. in Rowe Street Church.
