CABARET NIGHT

BRIDGE DRAMA

Following their recent and very successful sell-out run, Bridge Drama return to the National Opera House on March 23 and 24 with their production of, ‘An Inspector Calls,’ by JB Priestley. ICA MEETING

The monthly meeting of the Castlebrid­ge ICA Guild will be held in the community centre, Castlebrid­ge on Monday, March 20, at 7.30 p.m. All new members are most welcome.

THE KUBE

CURRACLOE SCHOOL NEWS

There will be an open evening in the school on Thursday, March 30, at 7 p.m. Refreshmen­ts will be provided and there will be an opportunit­y to view all classrooms and facilities including the bew sensory room. Fifth and sixth class pupils will be presenting their entries for ‘The Junior Entreprene­ur 2017’. Mrs Torpey’s music group will provide entertainm­ent. This event is open to everyone including current and prospectiv­e parents.

On Friday, March 3, fifth and sixth class pupils took part in ‘Meet the Dragons’ which was part of the Junior Entreprene­ur programme. Five teams took part in the competitio­n: Scrabble Curracloe, Suga Rush, Curracloe Bakers, Cocoa Cola, Curracloe Car Wash. Each team presented their business to three dragons Ms Doyle, Donal Power and Louise Morton. The competitio­n was very tough and in the end it went to a tie – breaker. Suga Rush, who produced some really exciting sweet products, including lollipops, butterfly shaped sweet bags and chocolate coated biscuits, were announced winners. Fifth and sixth classes will now embark on a new business called Suga Rush. We wish them the best of luck in their venture.

Pupils from third and fourth class recently took part in the local Community Games Hand Writing competitio­n. Well done to all and especially those who received certificat­es. The following children finished in first place, Mya Cogley (under-12 girls), Shauna Somers (under-10 girls), Eoin O’Doherty (under-12 boys), Seán Moran (under-10 boys). Eoin Murphy and Eoin O’Doherty.

Pupils from fifth and sixth class took part in the art competitio­n and congratula­tions to the following children who finished in first place, Niall Power (under-14 boys), Abi Murphy (under-14 girls), Alan Neville (under-12 boys), Muireann Lanigan (undergirls).

Recent split-the-pot winners were Mick and Anne Carty, who won €184.

Congratula­tions to Abi Murphy, sixth class pupil who is the school Spelling Bee. Abi will compete in the county final which will take place in Gorey today, Tuesday, March 14, Cards.

Weekly winners of the partners 45 cards in Hotel Curracloe were Murt Kelly and Michael Byrne. Last week’s winners were Kathleen Murphy and Michael Byrne. Cards continue every Thursday night at 9 p.m. from now till Easter. There is an open draw and all are welcome.

REGISTRATI­ON NIGHT

The last two ‘all-in-one’ registrati­on nights for the Shelmalier GAA, St Ibar’s/Shelmalier camogie club and Coiste na nÓg clubs has proved to be a great success with large attendance at both nights. The next night will take place on Monday, March 30, from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. and parents and individual­s who have not as yet paid their membership are asked to go along.

ST PATRICK’S DAY PARADE

The Shelmalier GAA Club Underage section will be well represente­d at the Wexford St Patrick’s Days parade on Friday next. This is always a great occasion for these young boys and girls. Thanks to the many club mentors and coaches who ensure that the club is well represente­d.

DEVELOPMEN­T LOTTO

results of the Curracloe United lotto draw for Sunday, March 5, as follows. The numbers drawn were 12, 17, 21 and 27. There was no jackpot winner and one mach three winner, Gerry and Gang, one, Ballaghnla­ke, Curracloe, who won €150. Weekly draw every Sunday night at 9 p.m. and tickets available from committee members.

GAA ACTION

The Shelmalier senior hurlers began their league campaign with a home match against Glynn-Barntown in Hollymount on Saturday last. Ciaran O’Shaughness­y and Paraic O’Leary opened the scoring for the home team after two minutes of play with Glynn soon levelling matters. Glynn-Barntown then took the initiative but three well taken points from Conor Hearne had his side trailing by a goal after 15 minutes. The Shels continued to work hard resulting in further points from James Cash, Conor Hearne, Ciaran O’Shaughness­y and Glen Malone to put a single point between the sides in the last few minutes of the first half. Michael Feeney levelled the scores on the resumption with Tommy Barron putting his side ahead in the fifth minute. Both sides exchanged scores before a well taken goal by Michael Feeney levelled the scores with five minutes to go. However, Glynn-Barntown proved the stronger in the closing stages to win on a final scoreline of 2-15 to 1-14.

This game was followed by the Shelmalier Intermedia­te hurlers taking on a fancied Fethard side with early points from Denis Kelly, Shane Birney Dan Campbell and Stephen Whelan. Fine free taking by Shane Birney put his side into a commanding lead before Fethard hit back with two goals in the space of a few minutes to give them a five point lead. On the resumption Aodhan Foley, Shane Birney (4) and Jody Donohoe showed the sides great fighting spirit with six fine points but Fethard continued to lead on the scoreboard till Shane Birney fired to the roof to the Fethard net to level the score and Conor Byrne put his side into the lead with full time fast approachin­g. However, Fethard were awarded a free with the last puck of the game so the sides finished level 1-14 to 2-11.

The league again reverts to football this week with Sarsfields visiting Hollymount on Thursday night next when they take on the home team under lights starting at 8 p.m. The junior footballer­s welcome St James’s to Hollymount on Sunday next, March 19, starting at 4.30 p.m. Both teams would welcome your support.
