The search for the next Mayor of Maudlintown
ST Mary’s GAA Club are searching for their next Mayor of Maudlintown to raise money for the ‘Rocks Development’ with the winner being announced on April 22.
The four candidates are Christy Lane, Paddy Swords, Matty O’Gorman and John Creane who will be around canvassing in hope for a vote, which will be done by a bucket collection – €1 for one vote.
‘We are not doing text voting this year as it was very problematic for us the last time we did it. It is not to be taken seriously anyway, we are just doing it for fun and to help our club out,’ said organiser Jimmy Stafford.
The money from the campaign will be donated to St Mary’s Club towards the ‘Rocks Development’, which will go towards more facilities for the club.
‘It is our clubs 60th anniversary and this is the second time we have done the Mayor of Maudlintown fundraiser. We only ever do it every six years,’ said Jimmy.
Maudlintown’s current Mayor is Paddy Swords, who is running in the campaign again this year.
‘ The four candidates are all looking forward to it. A lot of work is involved but they seem to be enjoying it,’ said Jimmy.
To vote for a participant buckets have been placed in Wexford town and Maudlintown in shops and supermarkets.
‘We just ask that everyone comes out and supports the four men. We are having an opinion poll in three weeks time to see how everything is going and to see who is in the lead,’ said Jimmy.
