Bridesmaid could have lost sight in attack with high-heeled shoe

-

HOSTILITIES broke out at a wedding reception and a high heeled shoe was used as a weapon on a bridesmaid.

Suzanne O’Leary (34) with addresses at 52 Pairc Chluain, Mulgannon and 25 King Street, Wexford pleaded guilty at Wexford Court to assaulting Danielle Hawe at the Riverbank Hotel on October 31, 2014.

Garda Mark Power arrived at the hotel at 1 a.m. to find the injured party sitting on the car park wall with her face covered in blood.

She had been struck below the right eye and she was called forward in court to show Judge John Brennan the permanent scar left on her face.

Ms O’Leary was represented by barrister Jordan Fletcher who described his client as a single mother of three children.

Ms Hawe said that she had been held back at the time by Ms O’Leary’s brother and boyfriend while the defendant came at her with the shoe.

The judge remarked that photos showed an injury that could have had a long term effect and that the shoe was a lethal weapon.

There was no justification for using it in a way that could have cost Ms Hawe her eyesight, he concluded.

He told Suzanne O’Leary that she must carry out 200 hours of community service in lieu of four months in prison. THE dangers of drying clothes on hot household appliances has been highlighted after they caught fire in the laundry room of a house in Bridgetown recently.

Gardai said they were called to the house fire at around 5 p.m. and fire officers said the fire had been caused by washing being left to dry on a tumble drier and a washing machine, both of which were on at the same time.
