Irish Water investing €2.3m in pipe upgrade
IRISH Water is investing €2.3 million in a major upgrade of the County Wexford water main network in partnership with Wexford County Council to provide a more reliable water supply for customers in the county.
A number of sections of old water mains totalling a length of 9 kilometres along with service connections are to be replaced during the coming year, leading to expected improvements in water supply for residents and businesses in the county, with fewer disruptions due to burst pipes and a significant reduction in water leakage.
The first section of the work from Screen-Ballyfarnogue to Ballinrooaun is due to get underway on Monday, March 27 and is scheduled to last approximately seven weeks. The overall project is scheduled to take place over 45 weeks and will see the replacement of more than 9km of old water main.
‘ This work represents a €2.3 million investment in Co Wexford which will benefit local residents and businesses by providing a more secure and reliable water supply as well as reducing leakage on the network’ said Lisa Cogan, Infrastructure Programmes Regional Lead with Irish Water.
‘Irish Water has committed in its business plan to reduce leakage on the public water network to less than 38% by 2021. This project is part of our ongoing investment in Ireland’s water infrastructure’.
It is intended to close the L3001-2 from Ballyfarnoge to Ballinrooaun to facilitate this first phase of work. The road closure period granted by Wexford County Council extends from 8am on Monday March 27 to 6pm on Friday May 12. Traffic diversions will be in place but local access will be maintained at all times.
Irish Water said it regrets any inconvenience caused as a result of these essential works and will continue to work with the local community to minimise any disruption.
