Slippy Main Street alert after woman’s bad fall

- By

A Wexford woman said she had missed her stepson’s Confirmation and a close friend’s engagement as a result of a bad fall on one of the gullys on the town’s main street, which she said was like an ice rink when it was wet.

Lisa Marie Goff Odlum said she fell on the pavement when it was raining several days ago.

‘So dangerous, can’t understand why they still have those lethal slabs on the pedestrian area. Nearly every time I’ve been in town on a rainy day I see some craythur fall. This time it was me, literally seconds after warning my friend that they would be slippery when wet,’ she said.

‘I missed my step son’s Confirmation, a very close friend’s engagement party and the two best weather wise days so far this year. I haven’t been able to turn my head with inflammation in my neck and back. Be careful on rainy days guys even with baby steps you can easily fall,’ said Lisa Marie.

‘It’s really dangerous when it’s wet. I was wearing non-slip trainers when I fell.. my leg went out from under me and I came down on my elbow,’ said Lisa Marie, who said she couldn’t move for three days following the accident and was still in a lot of pain.

‘It’s an issue that have raised on a number of occasions,’ said Cllr George Lawlor.

‘ I know that the council we’re doing testing to look at the adhesion on the gullys.. but I’m not sure to what extent that has been done. It is a problem and I will be raising it again,’ he said.
