Special treat great gas for building fan John

- By

AN 11-year-old would-be engineer has been a daily visitor to one of the teams rolling out the new natural gas pipeline for Gas Networks Ireland in Wexford town over the past week or two.

In fact John Beary took it one step further, getting togged out in a hi-viz waist coat, white helmet and ‘safety’ boots to watch the goings on.

Project engineer Kevin Clay decided to reward young John for his interests and the crew presented him with a laminated health and safety certificate.

John was delighted to receive the cert presented by the crew as they were working at the Francis Street junction, next to the Friary where his elder brother Patrick is the sacristan.

‘He’s delighted with himself. He’s big into construction and even at home he’s always building things out of Lego and any time there’s work going on in the area, he’s always going over to see what’s going on,’ said Patrick. ‘John is at the CBS and even when all the other children were playing at lunchtimes, John was over having his sandwiches with them and the same for the clinic in Grogan’s Road.’

John is the son of John Snr and Margaret Beary and is said to have been interested in building and construction ‘ literally from the day he was born’.

Patrick said his younger brother was delighted when the workers presented him with his Health and Safety certificate with his proud dad on hand to watch the proceedings.

‘It was a big surprise for him,’ said Patrick.
