Popular sportsman Lee (20) is fighting for his life after crash
A 20-year-old Clonroche man is fighting for his life having been severely injured in a car accident on the N30 road on Wednesday.
Lee Keeley was driving on the road when he lost control of his vehicle and crashed into a tree at Berkeley, near Corcoran’s Cross.
The single vehicle accident occurred on Wednesday afternoon and emergency services arrived on the scene, while an air ambulance landed in a nearby field.
Lee, who is goalkeeper for Cloughbawn GAA Club and Clough AFC soccer club, was taken to University Hospital Cork for treatment.
Sergeant Eddie Wilde of New Ross Garda Station said an investigation is under way into the accident.
A popular, friendly young man, Lee’s mother is Colette and he has one brother and one sister. His father Paul Sinnott passed away in 2014.
He has been studying Applied Social Sciences at the Wexford branch of Carlow IT.
Lee’s family have travelled to Cork University Hospital to maintain a vigil by his bedside, offering every support they can to him.
A family member said he is getting the best medical care, adding that his condition has not changed significantly since he arrived at hospital on Wednesday. ‘ The support has been superb from the family. The people in our community have been superb. There have been lots of prayers. People are very good.’
Lee featured in this newspaper recently having saved Cloughbawn AFC during a penalty shoot out.
