Singing pirates tread timbers
SINGING PIRATES took over Carrig on Bannow last week for three nights of exuberant and fun filled musical drama at the community hall.
The inaugural production of The Little Sea Musical Society, ‘The Pirates of Penzance’ by Gilbert and Sullivan, opened on Wednesday night to a packed hall and the show got its hooks into the audience over the three nights.
The entire company, including the also newly formed Kiltra School of Music Concert Orchestra, had been practicing for months for the show which was directed by Teresa Buckley, produced by Angela Mahon, with orchestra conducted by Robert Mahon.
The Pirates of Penzance tells the story of a young pirate apprentice named Frederic who has come to the end of his indentured period. As it transpires, Frederic was indentured by mistake.
His half-deaf nurse had been instructed to apprentice him to a ‘pilot’ but got it a little wrong. Frederic decides to leave the pirate life behind him forever, devoting his life to the extermination of their kind.
The committee of Bríd Casey, Mary Finn, Angela Mahon, Áine O’Grady and Chairman Domini Codd wish to thank everyone who has been involved in any way. They particularly thank those who have supported the society through sponsorship or generously giving of their time and talents.
