COMMUNITY GAMES Areas should now be focusing on outdoor team events, the finals of which will be held in Dublin in August.

Entries are sought for Gaelic football, hurling, camogie, rounders and soccer, as well as entries for choir and one-wall handball.

Congratulations to Wexford Community Games President Margaret McDermott who was presented with a special golden jubilee medal in recognition of all the years she has dedicated to Community Games, at local and county level, as well as provincial and national level.

The presentation of awards took place at the Shamrock Lodge Hotel in Athlone recently. It’s been quite a few years since Wexford had entries in the very popular projects competitions. Competitors are asked to study and source information on a given topic and then display their results on a board.

This is a great event and for the children working together it’s very satisfactory. Wexford Community Games are inviting entries for this year’s competitions. The topics are as follows -

Under-11: our Community Games heroes (research a project based on who you see as a hero). Under-13: the future of Community Games (present a project based on your hopes for the future).

Under-15: volunteers are not paid - not because they are worthless, but because they are priceless (research your project on a local or well-known volunteer and what contribution he or she has made, and the role of volunteers in Community Games. DIARY DATES
