Cushinstown pay penalty in Howth
WEXFORD FOOTBALL LEAGUE
Cushinstown bowed out of the LFA Junior Shield at the quarter-final stage in heart-breaking fashion when they were beaten 3-2 on penalties away to Howth Celtic.
The home side took the lead but Conor O’Neill grabbed the equaliser for Cushinstown. It was a day of spot-kick misery for the visitors, as on top of losing the shoot-out they also had a penalty saved in the second-half.
NeilO’SullivanCup
Tombrack booked their place in the semi-final of the Neil O’Sullivan Cup after edging out North End United ‘B’ in a five-goal thriller on Sunday.
Tony Crosbie and Danny Fitzpatrick scored for the town side, but Tombrack prevailed thanks to goals from Richie O’Hara, Rory Newe and James Coleman.
Forth Celtic joined them in the final four after a first-half strike from Paul Underwood was enough to see them through at the expense of St. Leonards. Noel Roche was the hat-trick hero for Bree United on Sunday as they progressed to the semi-final of the Billy Browne Cup with a 4-3 win over Oylegate United.
Oylegate raced into a 3-1 advantage with goals from Ciarán Hillery, Barry Dunne and Jamie Reck, but Roche’s treble and a Dylan Dalton strike sent Bree through.
Wexford Albion stayed on course to land more silverware as they saw off Wexford Celtic ‘B’ 6-2 with goals from Liam O’Connor, Jamie Thomas, Pierce Dooley, Kyle Mann, Paul Dempsey and Ian McGuire.
Bridge Rovers had a tougher passage to the last four as they overcame Raheen 7-6 on penalties after a 1-1 draw.
