Sizzling sausages are top class

THE LURE OF a hearty fry-up the day after St Patrick’s Day proved a big hit with the residents of Olyegate and Glenbrien last week.

In a bid to raise funds for the under-14 Féile camogie team, the club decided to hold a breakfast morning in the local community centre to help finance Féile, which takes place in Wexford from June 16 to June 18.

Club secretary Christine Martin said the whole event had been a great success with plenty of support from the parish.

‘It went really well. We got a brilliant response from people and it was really well supported by everyone from the area. It was a great day to have it really because not only was it the day after St Patrick’s Day but there had also been a wedding in the parish the day before St Patrick’s so people were delighted to have breakfast cooked for them.

‘We had all the under-14 teams acting as waitresses and they were brilliant. When people came in they took their orders and then served up the breakfasts when they were ready. In addition to fry ups we also had a range of other breakfast options including cereal and fruit – but most people opted for the fry!

‘All the parents helped out on the day with the cooking and the washing up, as did committee members, so it was a real community event. The food had been sponsored as well and the hall which made a big difference to the fundraising.

‘We have been running a number of events throughout the year to finance the Féile and thankfully we are nearly there, but we want ensure that it is as good as it can be for the children.’
