‘Christy would have been proud’
THE ANNUAL Christy Purcell memorial road run drew a huge crowd of 168 people this year with a great variety of vehicles, from vintage cars to tractors old and new, motorbikes and even two cyclists participating in the event,
Held in memory of former club member Christy from Clongeen who loved riding his bikes, the drivers set off shortly from Foulksmills shortly after 1 p.m. and headed on back roads to Adamstown where they had a short stop in Brad Óg’s pub, where they were treated to the best of hospitality with soup, sandwiches and hot food. The committee would like to thank Bernie and her staff for their wonderful hospitality.
The drivers then headed back to Foulksmills on a different route and returned to the Oak Tree pub, where they were treated to a lovely hot dinner.
Angela Byrne of the club said: ‘We would like to thank Larry, Mary and staff for a great evening. We would like to thank Noel Cullen for the use of his yard, anyone who made donations on the day, our marshalls on the day, members of all the other vintage clubs that supported us on the day and our own members for all their help.’
All money raised will be donated to Wexford Hospice Homecare and other local charities later in the year. ‘Christy would have been very proud to see such a great turnout and everyone enjoying the day,’ Ms Byrne said.
