CORACH NOTES

Congratulations to Margaret Bowe, Campile on picking up the Corach Ramblers split-the-pot prize for an incredible second time winning €667. Thanks once again everyone for your continued support.

A-team were away to St Joseph’s today in the last 16 of the Wexford cup, it’s never an easy place to get a result and we were also missing three of our regular squad to make things that bit harder.

In tough conditions with a gale force wind blowing straight down the pitch we were playing into it in the first half and on five minutes we had our first chance when Barry found Niall in the box and he skipped around his man but the ball just got away from him before he could get his shot in.

On 18 we thought we had a penalty when hermi was brought down but the ref waved play on, we were moving the ball well despite the strong wind and we were limiting Joseph’s to long balls and on the one occasion they did get through a great interception by Adam at the back post saw the danger cleared. So 0-0 at half time.

In the 47th minute we won a corner which Daz played to Niall and his cross was sent to the net by Mark for a deserving 1-0 lead. On 59 minutes we won a free 20 yards out which was taken by Niall and a good save from the Joseph’s keeper kept his side in it.

Our back four were solid today and not letting Joseph’s through. On 61 minutes a long kick out by Darren found Hermi, who went around his man and sent a 15 yard shot across the keeper and into the far corner for a 2-0 lead.

On 71 minutes we got another free on the edge of the box when Tadhg was taken down but Daz was just over with his effort. On 89 minutes we got our third when good pressure from Niall forced a mistake from the Joseph’s defence and Hermi’s cross was volleyed to the net from 10 yards by Richie.

A good performance today from all the lads and now we wait to see who we get in the quarter final.

This weekend’s underage fixture list: Schoolboys – under-nine blitz in St Leonards Fc, under-11s home v Fethard Rangers at 1 p.m.; Schoolgirls – under-12s home v New Ross Celtic KO tbc.
