The under-12 girls had a good win over a determined Moyne Rangers side in their second last game of the Division 1 League. Despite the opposition scoring the first goal the girls came in at halftime time leading 3-1 thanks to a lovely goal from Aoibheann Rankin, while the second was a super strike from Abby Lambert, and Ciara Murphy skillfully slotted in the third.

The second half was just as entertaining with Aoibheann proving a real problem for the Moyne defence; scoring three more well taken goals. Tara Cullen battled hard and also sent a rocket past the Moyne keeper. It must be said that Moyne did have their chances but a fine defensive display by Eve Rowe, Aoife Codd, Sophie Wallace, Cora Sinnott and goalkeeper Aoife Devereux proved too strong on the day.

Well done girls and now we are all looking forward to the final game away to Gorey, where a win or draw would see the girls finish top of the league.

KILLINICK ICA

The most recent meeting was held on March 6 with president Mary Quirke and nineteen fellow members present. A one-day craft school will be held in Enniscorthy on April 29 and a computer course for a period of six weeks in the Wexford library for ICA members which began on March 14 was discussed. A vote of sympathy was passed with the Goldsmith family on the sad loss of Frank from Ballybrennan.

Chris Berney and Teresa Pettit were the hostesses on the evening and Mary Crotty, Marie Mac Nae and Joan Furlong will host the next meeting on April 3The competition winners were Mary Quirke, Mary Crotty and Mary Fenlon and the competition for the next meeting is for the nicest starter for a wedding breakfast.

MINOR HURLING

Our Lady’s Island/St Fintan’s minor hurling team took on Kilross Gales an amalgamated side of Kilmore and Rosslare on a blustery morning in Carne and in what was a very entertaining game played out a draw on a scoreline of Our Lady’s Island/St Fintan’s 4-09 Kilross Gales 3-12. Playing with the aid of the wind in the first half the homeside lead 4-06 to 2-05 when the halftime whistle sounded.

The second half was to be a different story with the ‘Gales’ using the wind to great effect and held a two point lead with just five minutes remaining but two pointed frees from Cian Meyler one of which was deep into injury time brought the sides level when the referee sounded the full time whistle.

SENIOR FOOTBALL

Two St Fintan’s men Joey Wadding and Donal Shanley, who was returning after a lenghtly injury were members of Wexford senior football team that defeated London in an Allianz football league div.4 round five game played in Innovate Wexford park during the recent past and in doing so secured promotion to div.3 of the league for next season.

London made the Wexford lads work hard for this victory, perhaps the tag of favourites to succeed weighed heavily on the shoulders of the Wexford men. This 0-15 to 0-09 victory say Séamus McEnaneys men gain promotion with two games to spare.

LADIES UNDERAGE

The St Fintan’s under-16 ladies played very strong opposition in an experienced Bannow outfit on Sunday evening last. They started slowly and conceded a couple of goals early on as this was the first year playing at under-16 level for most of these girls and they showed great spirit and determination particulary in the second half fighting hard for every ball and laying siege to opponents goal, but unfortunately getting nothing easy, scoring just six points. The final score was St Fintan’s 0-8 Bannow 5-8. Well done girls the future is bright.
