Safe supplements to take during pregnancy

-

I often get asked about remedies to take during pregnancy. They are fairly limited and I find that my hands are tied about what I can recommend. The most common question is how to relieve morning sickness. If you can’t handle gingernut biscuits you could try a prenatal formula that contains Vitamin B6, and Zinc both are associated with relieving morning sickness.

Lack of energy is common and again a good prenatal multi vitamin may help. If you’re low in iron then Salus Floradix iron is non-constipating and has been safely used by pregnant women for decades and can help improve energy levels. Bio-Strath is another great choice for energy with the added benefit of helping you deal with stress, and supporting your immune system.

Other products that can support your immune system to prevent picking up infections from people around you include probiotics, or Vitamin D supplements. Proven is one brand of probiotics that is suitable for use during pregnancy, but your local health store will be able to advise you on their favourite ones.

Omega oil high in DHA is important for the babies’ brain development and is important for you to take.

The best thing for a sore throat is to gargle with salt and warm water and maybe a chewable Zinc and Vitamin C lozenge with the approval of your doctor.

Constipation in pregnancy is a common problem; a healthy diet that is high in fibre and plenty of water will help. But if that doesn’t work then you could try a probiotic. Optibac Probiotic that says high in fibre is suitable during pregnancy and should help give you some relief.

If you suffer from leg cramps or lack of sleep you could try BetterYou Magnesium spray which can be massaged into the legs.

Rules for what you can take during pregnancy are always changing; even what you can eat has changed dramatically from when I was pregnant. So when it comes to supplements choose ones that say they can be used in pregnancy and you should be ok. Your local health store may have other options for you to try.

Hopefully, you will sail through your pregnancy without any health problems and no need for my advice with a wonderful bundle of joy at the end.
