Green light for Brosnan move

-

THE inter-county future of Ben Brosnan is secure following the decision of the Appeals committee to grant his transfer.

Brosnan was at the centre of a storm, having had his request to transfer from Bannow-Ballymitty to Castletown rejected by a County Board sub-committee.

The Castletown club and Brosnan brought an appeal against that decision to the Appeals committee on Friday night which was chaired by Ballyhogue clubman, Liam Curtis.

Following lengthy deliberations and having heard from both Colm Morris and Brosnan, along with representatives of the committee that rejected his original decision, the Appeals committee decided to uphold the appeal, granting his transfer to the Castletown club.

Castletown felt all along that the player was being wronged in having his original transfer application rejected by the first committee, feeling that he met all the necessary criteria to have a successful conclusion to his request.

In the lead-up to the appeal the Castletown club had been fully briefed by the GPA on behalf of the player. It was this advice they took into the Appeals committee meeting along with the evidence already provided for their initial application.

Whatever transpired prior to and during the meeting, the Appeals committee after hearing the evidence in full decided to reject the decision of the original sub-committee members who had unanimously rejected the player’s request.

Brosnan’s application had the backing of the Bannow-Ballymitty club who had provided a letter in support of the player’s transfer request and wished him well into the future.

Castletown club Chairman, Gabriel Maxwell, said they were delighted with the decision.

‘We cannot understand why Ben had his original application rejected. He met all the transfer criteria in full. It was a lengthy hearing but when word filtered through to Ben late on Friday night that his transfer had been granted, we were all simply delighted.

‘Now we look forward to Ben playing with the club and having a role in our championship bid. He’s a quality forward and we’re delighted to have him on board.’

Brosnan can now put this transfer saga behind him and look forward to next Saturday’s Allianz League Division 4 final meeting with Westmeath in Croke Park.

Meanwhile, Wexford Senior inter-county hurler Eanna Martin has also had a change of clubs after his recent marriage.

Having previously won county senior titles with Sarsfields in Cork, Martin returned to his home club, Geraldine O’Hanrahans, for last season. Now he has made the move across the border where he has linked up with Carrickshock, the home of the Power brothers.
