GAA LOTTO

The St Fintan’s GAA lotto now stands at €4,100 and tickets can be purchased from local shops and the club grounds on Tuesday evenings from 8 p.m. and from club members at a cost of €1.50. There is also a match-three prize of €300 up for grabs each week and Adrian Murphy, Mairead Lambert, Katrina Parrock shared in this prize with the following numbers drawn were 4, 10, 24 and 30. SCOUTS

Wexford Sub Aqua Club have organised a beach clean-up on Saturday, April 8, in Kilmore Quay at 10 a.m. The scouts will be joining other groups in this important environmen­tal event and would love to see parents and family members join in the fun.

ALL BLACKS AFC

The men’s side joined Rosslare Rangers at the top of the div.4 league table by proving much too strong for a Moyne Rangers side winning 6-0 thanks to goals from John Codd (2), Mark Goldsmith (2) with Peter Goldsmith and Shane Sinnott also getting on the scoresheet.

In div.1 of the ladies league the All Blacks took on Bree Utd in a home fixture but came out on the wrong end of a 2-0 scoreline.

A big well done to the under-10 girls making it five wins out of five and clinching the under-10 Division 1 League title at home over the weekend by beating Tombrack 2-0. The goals came from Jolie Rankin and Ava Hendrick. It was a great team performanc­e by all 14 girls involved today. Super proud of this great bunch of girls who are a credit to their families and club. The girls will receive their plaque next Saturday following the last game of the season at home v Ferns.

All Blacks AFC over-35s league team kickoff Wednesday, April 5, training/meeting at 7.30 p.m. Casey Park. Anyone interested please attend. First round league competitio­n commences May 12, 2017. Best wishes, looking forward to seeing you all.

ST FINTAN’S GAA

Two members of the St Fintan’s GAA Club were members on the Wexford senior football team that suffered a heavy defeat at the hands of Westmeath in Innovate Wexford Park during the recent past. Joey Wadding and Donal Shanley were members of an understren­ght Wexford side with team manager Séamus McEnaney giving all fringe players a run out. Jim Rossitter is still suffering from a hamstring injury but the boys hope to be members of a much stronger team when it takes on the same opponents in the div.4 league final in Croke Park on Saturday, April 8,

The minor football team of St Fintan’s/Our Ladys island defeated Oylegate-Glenbrien 4-8 to 3-9 in the Wexford People minor football Roinn one B championsh­ip during the recent past following on the minor hurling teams fine victory over Kilross Gaels the previous week.

PARISH COUNCIL AGM

The Ballymore-Mayglass parish council will hold its AGM on Wednesday, April 5, in the Scout Hall, Ballymore at 8.30 p.m. It is 25 years since the parish council was set up and many of the current members have served on it from the start. It would be great to get some new members. We are looking forward to a good attendance.

EASTER CAMP

An Easter camp will be held at St Fintan’s National School on April 11, 12 and 13 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. daily and it will be hosted by Nicholas Nest. The activities will be fun and games, art and craft, Boot camp, yoga, Science and Baking. Places are limited so book early to avoid disappoint­ment, contact Nichola at 089 4145680.

FUN RUN

Mayglass four mile fun run will take place on May 1 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. with St Fintan’s National School the venue. The run is organised by St Fintan’s National School parents’ associatio­n.

BALLYCOGLE­Y PLAYERS

The Ballycogle­y Players drama group brought the curtain down on its season of competitiv­e drama by sweeping the boards at the recent New Ross drama festival.

Following a number of second place finishes at other qualifying festivals around the country the Billy Roche penned ‘Lay Me Down Softly’ took the spoils and its director Breda Hayes was rewarded for her hard work by taking the best directors award. Cast member Chris Maddock received an nomination for a best actors award an award won by Paddy McGuire,

Trish Boyce was rewarded by taking the best actress award in a supporting role and the group also received an award for the best set. Though missing out by the narrowest of margins in its quest to qualify for the all-Ireland Final the group is pleased with its production­s of the play and would like to sincerely thank playwright Billy Roche for trusting them to take his play on its maiden voyage on the festival circuit.

The group will give its loyal supporters one more chance to see its production of Lay Me Down Softly by staging a performanc­e in the Dun Mhuire Wexford on Friday, April 14, at 8.30 p.m. Admission €10.

WAY OF THE CROSS

Parishione­rs are invited to join together in carrying the Parish Cross on Good Friday. The cross will be carried from Ballycogle­y Grotto at 2.15 p.m. on Good Friday and arriving at Ballymore Church for the celebratio­n of the Passion Ceremony at 3 p.m. Lifts will be arranged to bring people back to Ballycogle­y afterwards. DEATH

The death of the very popualar Ballyhealy man Mick Reville took place last week after a short illness. Mick was known far and near and sincere sympathy go out to his mother Biddy, sister Bridgie, relatives family and friends on their great loss. Tea, coffee cakes served at the interval, all welcome, no charge for this community night.

OLI SEA SCOUTS

Our Lady’s Island Sea Scouts are looking for adult leaders to help set up a New Scout Troop in the Island. There will be a meeting in the community centre Tuesday, April 11, at 7.30 p.m. with representa­tives from Scouting Ireland. No experience needed full free training will be given to all leaders. We will be having a registrati­on evening for children after leader training is completed. This group is open to all (male and female) in our community.

This is a great opportunit­y to get kids involved in boating, camping, hiking, outdoor activities, camp fires and day trips. Scouting Ireland is one of the biggest youth led organisati­ons in the country with over 50,000 members. For more informatio­n please contact Emmet 087 7432800.

Our Minors travelled to New Ross last Sunday morning where they met a strong Geraldine O’Hanrahan Hurling team in what was to be the last game till June before the exam break begins, in which the New Ross team ran out comfortabl­e winners in the end. Our Juveniles kick off their year with a footballin­g trip to Gusserane this coming Monday evening with a 6.45 p.m. throw in.

Our Lady’s Island GAA weekly Bingo will commence in Butler’s from next Tuesday night, April 11, at 9.30 p.m. Get your bingo dabbers out, your eyes down and come along with the hope of winning the €250 jackpot.
