1 ST. IBERIUS CHURCH CONCERT: Music for Wexford will present a concert by one of Ireland’s leading young violinists Patrick Rafter, accompanied by pianist Lance Coburn in St. Iberius Church on Friday, April 7 at 8 p.m. 26-years-old Kilkenny man Patrick has toured Europe, Asia and America as a concert violinist, chamber and orchestral musician and is currently studying under Maxim Vengerov and Oleg Kaskiv at the International Menuhin Music Academy in Switzerland. He plays on a Georges Chonot violin, thanks to the support of the Department of Arts. Heritage, Regional, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs. New Zealander Lance Coburn has established himself as a charismatic chamber musician since winning first prize at the Tomassoni International Piano Competition in Cologne in 2001. He is a piano lecturer in the Royal Irish Academy of Music in Dublin.The programme for the Wexford recital will include works by Bach, Beethoven, Franck and Kreisler. Tickets are available at www.nationaloperahouse.ie and can also be purchased at the door. 2 FASHION SHOW: Wexford Light Opera Society‘s Annual Fashion Show will take place on Thursday (April 6) at 8 p.m in Clayton Whites Hotel. The Fashion Show will raise funds for the Society’s upcoming production of ‘9 to 5 The Musical’ . The Loft, Industry and Carraig Donn are showing their Spring collections and the event will again be hosted by Catherine ‘Biddy’ Walsh, so great fun is guaranteed. Tickets are just €10 and are available for all WLOS members. The Society will formally launch ‘9 to 5 The Musical’ on Saturday, April 8, with the booking office in High Street opening to the public on April 11 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily. Tel:053 9174808. 3 HERITAGE TALK: A fascinating and informative talk on ‘Houses, Heritage and History: Wells House’, will be given by proprietor of Wells House and Gardens Sabine Rosler in Gorey Library on Thursday, April 6, at 7 p.m. Sabine will discuss the history of Wells House and will also talk about Ireland’s Ancient East – Fáilte Ireland’s tourism campaign which aims to help uncover the intriguing stories from the past and discover the rich and colourful history of this region across its diverse landscape. All are welcome along to this free event. 4 GIS A SHOT OF YOUR BONGOS MISTER: This musical story written and performed by Brian Fleming will be on April 8 in the Wexford Arts Centre at 8 p.m. Directed by Raymond Keane, the story is being told from Dublin’s inner city flats to the suburbs of Senegal. Projection, spoken word, bad dance, striptease, live and recorded music combine to bring true stories to life. Tickets cost €18 and can be booked by contacting the Arts Centre on 053 91 23764. 5 A TASTE OF WEXFORD FARMERS MARKET: A new monthly farmers market featuring the best of Wexford artisan produce begins on Sunday, April 9, running from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in The Ashdown Park Hotel, Gorey. It then runs on the second Sunday of each month until October. Among the exhibitors are: O’Neills; Isle of Crackers; Wild About; Kingdom Bakery; Bean and Goose; Bramble Bakes; Naturally Cordial; Hugs Chocolates; Kearns Fruit Farm, and more. The hotel already has a fine reputation for using its own Redmond Farm produce in its restaurant. 6 TOM CREAN - ANTARCTIC EXPLORER: Tom Crean, the intrepid Antarctic explorer and one of Ireland’s unsung heroes, is brought to life in this dramatic and humorous solo performance by Aidan Dooley. Hear the riveting true stories of Crean’s Antarctic explorations as one of the few men to serve with both Scott and Shackleton and survive the three famous expeditions: Discovery, (1901 – 1904); Terra Nova (1910 – 1913); and Endurance (1914 - 1916). What promises to be a riveting and polished performance takes place at the National Opera House at 8 p.m. on April 6 and 7. Bookings on 053 9122144. 7 COOKERY DEMONSTRATION. There will be a charity fundraiser in the Riverbank House Hotel on Thursday, April 6. The demonstration which is being organised by Castlebridge ICA is in aid of Marine Watch, the Hope Cancer Centre and the Castlebridge Day Care Centre. Celebrity chef Edward Hayden will be giving the demonstration and he will be whipping up a range of delicious and tasty meals. These can be easily recreated at home and are ideal for all cooks regardless of skill level. Edward is very familiar to radio and television audiences from his weekly cookery slots on TV3’s Ireland AM and regular appearances on radio. He has also lectured in An Grianán. Doors open at 7.30pm.
