ROSSLARE SCHOOL RECEIVES FUNDING FOR SENSORY GARDEN
TWO Wexford schools are among six schools receiving funding through Image Masters, the family-run school photography company based in Gorey.
Last September Image Masters called for submissions, inviting parent associations at schools around the country to apply for financial support to help them complete projects.
Scoil Mhuire in Rosslare and Gorey Central School were selected, along with three schools in Dublin and one in Wicklow.
Scoil Mhuire in Rosslare will use its funding to take on the ambitious task of converting their courtyard into an immersive sensory garden for their students.
The school says that the garden will benefit pupils in a number of ways.
Pupils will learn how to sow and care for fruit and vegetable plants thus improving self-sufficiency as adults.
They will learn to be respectful of the garden and their surroundings as they will be responsible for the content and maintenance of the garden.
The children will harvest and eat what they grow, thus promoting a healthy diet.
And they will be enabled to develop important life skills such as effective communication, decision-making, teamwork and time-management while participating in the project.
At Gorey Central School the funding will be used to fund the school’s all-weather playing pitch.
The school has set itself the daunting task of raising over €70,000 to convert their grass area in the school yard into an all-weather, astroturf playing pitch.
Image Masters have launched a new blog, www.imagemasters.ie/who-wevefunded, on all projects that receive funding support through the scheme where people will be able to keep up to date and follow the progress of projects as they develop.
