Crafts and Mushroom making – Some of our volunteers and staff here at Grantstown have been making beautifully painted garden mushroom ornaments, which would look super in your garden for the summer months. We have some for sale here ranging in sizes. You can order them from staff or at reception at 051 561016.
WWETB – To all in the community we are delighted to inform you that WWETB has agreed to fund a horticulture course in Grantstown. It is for you and you are all invited to attend. There are no formal exams to worry about you just have to have an interest in horticulture. The course is due to start after Easter. We plan to run this on Fridays. For more details please ring ASAP as places are filling up quickly. Contact our reception at 051 561016.
Tea Dance – Come along and support our Good Friday Dance on Friday, April 14, from 10 p.m. to 1 a.m. music by the fabulous Checkers. Admission €8 tea and refreshments served. All proceeds going towards Wexford Hospice Homecare. This is a service that is used by a lot of people within our community. A great night of dancing guaranteed.
GET FIT CLUB
Would you like to meet other locals in the community and enjoy a walk with the brighter evenings? We are starting our walking club back up every evening at 5 p.m. Meeting at the GAA Park.

SOCIAL NIGHT OUT
Thursdays country music and social dancing nights in Tír na nÓg makes a great night out for groups, family gatherings, social groups, senior citizens, ladies’ night out or celebrating a birthday etc. etc. Refreshments are served and bus available at €5 per person phone Markie Sinnott 087 2407755. GAA CLUB NOTES
Lotto numbers were 3, 7, 21 and 31. Next jackpot will get €9,200. Well done Ann Rochford, who was a match-three number winner.
Well done to the Scor group who won the Leinster Final and are now heading to Belfast for the all-Ireland Final on May 6. All photos and results on our Facebook page.
Jane Rossiter represented the club with the under-16 ladies county football team last weekend well done Jane.
Farewell to Ben Brosnan, who finally got the go ahead to transfer to Castletown on Friday last. We wish you the very best of luck Ben both in club and County. Don’t forget us.
Men’s football league this Friday when the intermediate footballers take on Horeswood in Grantstown while the Junior’s travel down to Our Lady’s Island on Saturday evening for a 6.30 throws in. Check Facebook for times and venues a’s they easily changes.
Football Championship is marked down for the following weekend. The intermediate team play Kilanerin.
Well done to both county teams in their Leagues. Well done to all our Students playing on teams in their schools and colleges.
Model County tickets are making their way around the parish over the next few weeks.
SUNDAY CAFE
Sunday Cafe will take place on Easter Sunday, April 16, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Ballymitty Hall. Come along and enjoy a cup of tea and a chat and maybe enjoy something sweet to celebrate the end of Lent. Children from Ballymitty Playschool are invited to hang their decorated Easter Eggs on our Easter Bunny Tree in the hall at 11 a.m.
EASTER EGG HUNT
The annual Easter Egg Hunt will take place after mass on Easter Sunday, starting at Ballymitty Hall at 11.15 a.m. Easter treats for everyone.
MONSTER BINGO
A Monster Bingo takes place on Easter Sunday, April 16, in Ballymitty Hall at 3 p.m. There will be €1,500 in prizes including Special Page; €50 one line, €100 for two lines and €150 full house. Raffle and lots of prizes. Tea and sandwiches served.
SEWING CLASSES
Sewing classes are on in Ballymitty hall every Thursday night from 7.30 p.m. to 9.30 p.m. Do you have a sewing machine that you would love to learn how to use? Learn the basics and try your hand at making your own creations. Children and beginners welcome. To book contact Mary Quirke 086 8432125. Classes in jnitting, crochet and Cross Stitch also on the night, try your hand at all four if you wish.
TABLE QUIZ
Please support the table quiz in Tír na nÓg, Wellingtonbridge on Wednesday, April 19, at 8.45 p.m. This is a fndraiser in aid of boys and girls Féile teams. Junior and adult teams on night, tables of four €20. Please come along and support.
LADIES GOLF
The Abbey Ladies Golf Society held their first outing of the season in Rathaspeck last Saturday morning. Winners were: 1st Bridget Murphy, 2nd Ann Banville, 3rd Martina Reidy, Category 1: Carole Murphy, Category 2: Esther Finn. NP Ann Crosbie, LD Anne Power. Birdies: Bridget Murphy, Carole Murphy, Marie T Wall.
The next outing is in the Abbey Par 3 Friday evening April 21 at 6 p.m. New members always welcome.
Also to Padriag Hore who competed in the Spring Throws competition, which were also in Athlone. He had a great performance obtaining a new PB in the 1.5kgs discus, finishing 2nd for his achievements. Very well done to both competitors over the weekend, continued success as all athletes are now busy preparing for the outdoor season.
CASTLE VINTAGE CLUB
The Castle Vintage Club will be holding their next meeting on Thursday, April 13, in the Scout Hall, Taghmon. Any members traveling on the May Bank Holiday three-day run please attend this meeting.
CAMROSS ICA
Our last meeting was our AGM on Monday, April 3, in Camross hall which was well attended by over 20 ladies. Our special guest on the night was Deirdre Connery, Federation president. Minutes, Correspondence, and Finance were dealt with by Margaret O’Gorman, Margaret O’Gorman (Poulpeasty), Dympna Kelly and Breda Banville. Sympathy was extended to the family of Anna Rowe and her husband Michael, who both recently passed away. Dympna also wished a speedy recovery to Margaret Kelly, who is currently in hospital.
Dympna Kelly congratulated all the participants to a hugely successful Irish Night which took place on Saturday, March 18, with a very large number of people present. In particular, she thanked the following who provided music and song, Peter Hughes, Michael Griffen, Jack Curran, George Donovan, Jim Shiel, Phil Power, Paddy White, Jimmy Doyle, Ann Redmond, Ann McClean, Liz Keely, Mary Goodison and Joan Quigley, also Nick Dempsey, Séamus Murphy, Fr Robert McGuire, Robert Nolan, Martin Jordan and Lar Doyle. Thanks went to Colette for providing the venue, and to the ICA members for the refreshments and prizes. The event was in aid of the Seniors Christmas party 2017 which is hosted by the Camross ICA Guild every year.
Dympna also thanks the ladies who took part in the Business Expo event organised by the Bank of Ireland recently in Taghmon. It was a great networking opportunity for all local businesses and community groups.
Thanks also went to the ladies who took part in the recent Social Cycling event which was on March 19 in aid of the Caroreigh Community Text Alert.
The ‘ICA Has Got Talent’ event was on Friday, March 31, in the Horse and Hound. The Camross ICA guild had three entries in the novelty act, the group dance and the recitation sections. Dympna thanks and congratulated all the very talented ladies involved in the competition, in particular Maggie Morrissey and Marian Donnelly, and also Mary Kelly for her recent successful cookery demonstration.
Deirdre Connery then addressed the group. She thanked this year’s committee members for their service over the past year and a new committee was elected with most of the ladies staying in their respective functions for another year. She thanked the Camross ICA Guild for all their work in Wexford. She also told the ladies how her love of ICA runs in her family as she remembers her mother was always knitting and crocheting and teaching local ladies how to create and mend things. On behalf of the ladies, Dympna Kelly presented Deidre with some lovely flowers.
Marian Donnely brought us back in time as she read her lovely recitation about her memories as a child on 1957’s Christmas night. Ann O’Gorman and Marian Donnelly served us some lovely scones and tea. The monthly competition of the ‘funniest Easter bonnet’ and was won by Maggie Morrissey and Véro Rooney won the yearly competition.
A few dates for your diary: April 22 – Craft Day April 23 – National Competition in Camross Hall This event will start at 11 a.m., food will be served on the day. Entry €5. April 24 – AGM in Oylegate April 28 the Federation Meeting. May 20 – National AGM in Athlone. May 21 – The Ann Power Walk this year will be in aid of the Women’s Refuge and will start from Camross Hall at 6.30 p.m. May 25 – Bowling in Leisure Max. June 8 – Special Occasion Day (no venue yet). June 10 - Pitch and Putt competition will take place in St Patrick’s in Enniscorthy. June 12 to June 15 – A four-day tour to Mayo. July 7 – The Garden Party will take place in An Grianán (ICA Head Office). 14 of the ladies will be going to the event this year as this is our annual outing.
Dancing with Velma is on Thursdays at 8.45 p.m. in Camross Hall all are welcome.
Our next meeting will take place on the second Monday of May, May 8 (because of the bank holiday) at 8 p.m. in Camross Hall. The monthly competition will be ‘As many items as you can fit in a small match box – no food and no two items the same please’.
