SAD PASSING

The parish of Bannow and beyond were in total shock last week at the tragic death of Aidan ‘Bugsy’ Cummins from an accident at his home recently. Bugsy was 53 years of age and is survived by his wife Joan sons Cathal and Cian and daughter Ciara, brothers Richard, Liam, John, Martin, Chris and Ray, and sister Bernie. Aidan was brought to Carrig church for funeral mass where crowds gathered to bid farewell to him. He was laid to rest in the adjoining cemetery. Deepest sympathy to his family and many friends, may he rest in peace.

Upcoming Events in Grantstown Day-care Centre: Tuesday, April 18 – Exercise, Cards/ Sonas and Shuttle Boards in the morning, Pongo in the afternoon. Wednesday, April 19 – Pongo and Ball Exercise in the morning, music with the two Paddy’s in the afternoon. Thursday, April 20 – Pongo and crafts in the morning, yoga and Cards in the afternoon. Monday the 24th – Pongo and crafts in the morning, music with Jim in the afternoon.

Horticultu­ral course – We are delighted to inform you that WWETB has agreed to fund a Horticultu­ral course in Grantstown. There is no formal exams to worry about YOU just have to have an interest in Horticultu­re. Gala Bingo – There will be a Gala Bingo held here in Grantstown on Sunday, April 23, from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. admission €5. We are looking forward to seeing you there.

SOCIAL DANCING

Dust off your dancing shoes and join us in St Mary’s Hall, Fethard-on-Sea for our new social dance nights. Kicking off our first dance on Friday, May 12, the brilliant ‘Moynihan Brothers ‘Dancing from 9.30 p.m. Admission €8 with compliment­ary refreshmen­ts. Other dates for your dancing diary: Friday, June 16 – Blue Lace, Friday, July 21 – Teresa and the Stars. We look forward to seeing you there.

SEWING CLASSES

Sewing classes are ongoing in Ballymitty hall every Thursday night from 7.30 p.m. to 9.30 p.m. Do you have a sewing machine that you would love to learn how to use? Learn the basics and try your hand at making your own creations. Children and beginners welcome. To book contact Mary Quirke 086 8432125. Classes in jnitting, crochet and Cross Stitch also on the night, try your hand at all four if you wish.

FÉILE TABLE QUIZ

There is a table quiz in Tír na nÓg, Wellington­bridge on Wednesday, April 19, at 8.45 p.m. There will be junior and adult teams on night, tables of four are €20. This is a fundraiser in aid of boys and girls Féile teams.

GAA CLUB NOTES

This week’s loot jackpot is 9,200 and the draw will take place this Tuesday. Tickets can be purchased from the Post Office Carrig, See breeze laundrette Carrig, Tír na nÓg, Wellington­bridge, and from any Club Officer down in the complex.

Yes it’s that time of the year again the Model County Draw. The draw will take place on the last Wednesday of April, May and June. A choice of three cars for first prize. Tickets are €50.

The first round of the Football Championsh­ip will take place this Saturday when our intermedia­te squad take on Killinerin at two o’clock in Innovative Park.

There will be a table quiz in Tír na nÓg this Wednesday evening for our under-14 Féile Boys and Girls’ teams to raise badly needed funds. Starting at 8.45 please support.

We would like to extend our Deepest Condolence­s to Joan, Cathal, Ciara, Cian and all the Cummins Families on the tragic loss of our good friend Aidan (Bugsy) Cummins.

SOCIAL NIGHT OUT

It’s that time again and we need to start the parish clean this Wednesday evening from7 p.m. we are doing the roads from Duffs turn to Grantstown and on to Balloughto­n then down to the cross of Coolishal. DEATH

Deepest sympathy to Paddy and Jimmy Devereux and families on the death of their brother John Devereux from Commons Duncormick last weekend. John reposed at Ryan’s funeral parlour on Sunday and he was removed on Monday to Rathangan church for 11 a.m. mass with burial afterwards in the adjoining cemetery.
