Nicky gifts his late wife’s art books to the library

- By

A collection of over 300 quality art books from a collection of the late Mairéad Furlong has been gifted to Wexford County Council Public Library Service by her husband Nicky.

In her lifetime Mairead built up an impressive Art book collection and following Mairead’s passing Nicky contacted the County Librarian to make the collection available through the public library service.

‘From Giotto to Cezanne; from Caravaggio to Picasso; From Turner to Warhol; From Lavery to Jack B Yeats this is an extensive collection of art reference material, said senior executive librarian Sinead O’Gorman.

Mairead’s art book collection represents a life’s work; a labour of love; a voyage of discovery. And it is now being made available to the people of County Wexford.

Mairead was a long time staunch supporter of the Arts and culture in County Wexford and a founding member of the Friends of the Wexford County Art Collection.

In accepting the donation from Nicky, Mayor of Wexford, Cllr Frank Staples thanked him for his generous donation and presented him with a token of appreciation from Wexford County Council.

The collection of books is currently being catalogued and will be available for reference purposes in the library service in County Wexford.
