GENERAL SPORT One-two in unraced stake

THERE WAS a very good card on offer at Enniscorthy Dog Track on Monday of last week featuring the final of the Kingsmill Messi @ stud open unraced worth a nice €1,600 to the winner.

Co. Carlow owner Henry Kelly not only had the winner, he also had the runner-up to make it a very good night indeed.

Henry’s runners are in tip-top form of late, having won the McAlmont Cup in Kilkenny just a few weeks back.

This time he won with Karlow Leader who beat his unbeaten brother, Karlow Rocket, with an impressive display, leading and never looking like he was going to be caught before running out a snug winner in a good 28.96.

The semi-finals of the 2017 April stakes A2/3 were also run. The first saw a competitive affair, with Cedars Runaway, owned by Dara O’Connor of Enniscorthy, getting the better of Faypoint Lisa and Lemon Pete in a time of 29.41.

The second semi was a cracking race, and hot favourite Tagalong Roy recorded his 21st career win when he got to the lead from Piercestown Moll who has been in great form of late also.

As hard as she tried, she just could not get on terms with the strong-running favourite who recorded another fast time of 28.76. Tagalong has drawn trap one in this week’s final and will be hard to beat, but he must get up from trap one to hold the bend.
