Carrig Cardiac First Responders will hold a church gate collection at Carrig-on-Bannow at all masses on Saturday the 6thand Sunday, May 7next. The proceeds will be used for the upkeep of our two defibrillators, for which we run 24-hour a day, 365 days a year rota in association with the National Ambulance Service.

They say to have a chance of winning a league title you have to win some of your games ugly, well that was the case tonight as we played our last home game against St Cormac’s and somehow came away with a 4-1 win in what was definitely our worst performance of the season, we started poorly and gifted cormacs a half chance after three minutes which they failed to take.
We didn’t learn from our mistakes and on 16 minutes we went a goal down following some poor defending. We tried to up our game but our intensity and passing were way below what we have come to expect and on 21 minutes we finally put a couple of passes together and Hermi was taken down in the box. Niall buried the penalty for the equaliser.
On 32 minutes we had a big let off when we gave away a needless penalty but Darren went full length to put it around the post, on 42 minutes we took the lead when Hermi was taken down in the box again and Niall stepped up to bury his second penalty so 2-1 up at half time.
The start of the second half seen us still misplacing too many passes and giving cormacs too many half chances, on 59 minutes we finally got a bit of breathing space when Niall picked up the ball in Cormac’s half and went past three players before slipping the ball under the keeper for his hat trick. We wrapped up the scoring on 71 minutes when following another great run from Niall the ball was played to Philly on the edge of the box and he slotted home for a 4-1 score line.
The main thing was despite not playing well we got ourselves three points closer to winning the league, and we have four very tough away games left from which we need to get five points, but we will have to improve a lot on tonight’s performance to get them.
SAD PASSING
Deepest sympathy to the Cahill/Whitty family on the sudden death of Marcella Cahill (née Whitty) on Saturday, April 22, at her home in Ballymitty. Marcella will be sadly missed by her daughters Rose, Pam and Marcella her sister Rose brothers Jim, Paul and Richard relatives and friends. Her remains were taken to St Peter’s church, Ballymitty for burial after 11 a.m. mass on Tuesday. May she rest in peace.
GAA CLUB NOTES

The Intermediate Football team lost by four points against Kilanerin in Innovate Park in their first round of the championship. They played Duffry Rovers in Cushinstown on Saturday last.
The Junior Footballers played St James in their first round and took the points with a good win. They took on Horeswood at the weekend for round two.
The Hurling Championship takes place this weekend. All fixtures/venues and results are on the club’s Facebook page and Twitter account. We wish everyone who is involved in the Scor all-Ireland competition the very best of luck this weekend. Great achievement for all.

DAYCARE ANNUAL OUTING
Grantstown Daycare are planning our annual trip for Tuesday, May 9. Our plan is to leave Grantstown in the morning. We will have a coach bus to bring us to Waterford’s Suir Valley Railway in Kilmeadan, Co Waterford. This is a railway train that follows 8.5 kilometres of the abandoned Waterford – Cork railway route. We plan to have lunch afterwards and then back to Grantstown to return home after a fun filled and interesting day.
This annual outing will cost each person €20 which will cover the bus, a meal and the train trip. For anyone who is not interested in coming on this trip the Daycare centre will still be open for our normal daily activities. ONE-ACT PLAYS
Camross Drama Group are looking forward to performing in Carrig-on-Bannow next week – Friday, May 5, at 8 p.m. Admission is €10 on door. We are presenting two One-Act comedies and a sketch which we are sure will entertain your local audience. Coldblow on winning €174 in last week’s split-the-pot draw. Draw takes place in the Community Hall on Sunday after Mass. Thanks to all involved.

The National Loreto Schools Track & Field championships were held Thursday in Morton Stadium Santry Emma Carr took 1st place in the minor 200m and 3rd place in the Long Jump and made the final of the minor 4x100m relay along with Niamh Reese who also competed in the Long Jump. Maeve Hayes 1st in the Senior High Jump and Long Jump jumping a new PB of 5.06m in the long jump and part of the team who got 2nd place in the 4x100m relay. Tara Connick competed well in the Senior discus finishing with a silver medal. Well done girls.
The first weekend of the Wexford County Track and Field Championships will take place Sunday, May 7, at 11 a.m. at the Track in Enniscorthy.

Following the recent National Spring Cleaning Day, the group wishes to thank AES for their provision of the skip for the day, the volunteers for giving of their time, Dom Sheil for driving to the various collection points to pick up the waste and all those who were involved in preparing and providing the refreshments afterwards in the Community Centre, Kilrane, We also wish to thank An Taisce, Wexford County Council (Environment Section) and Vera for organising the event. Approximately 12 cubic metres of litter were collected on the day, well done to all. Also a big thank you to the ICA who provided refreshments on the day. Much appreciated.
A WEEE (Waste Electric and Electronic Equipment) cage only for small Household electrical goods such as toasters, kettles, electric drills and a container for the recycling of fluorescent tubes is situated at the back of the Railway Social Club. It is open on Saturday Mornings between 10.00 and 11.30 a.m., weather permitting.
