Courthouse ‘van’ parking problem

- By

CONTRACTORS working on the new court house in Wexford town are blocking access to local roads, according to residents who say they have had enough.

One local resident said he had contacted the county council three times, but had yet to receive a response to his complaints.

‘ The contractors.. are randomly parking and blocking access to houses and littering,’ said the man, adding that his father is stressed whenever he tries to reverse his car out of his drive because of the haphazard parking.

‘It is also a one way system for a primary school and an accident waiting to happen.

‘ The best response was from the site manager in the Courthouse who put bollards up that the lads just move,’ he said.

Another local resident, who objects to the whole development, which she describes as out of scale, said the large numbers of cars parking in the area, were a real problem for pedestians too, particularly elderly people trying to make their way past the old municipal buildings.

Cllr David Hynes said he planned to raise the parking issue at the next meeting of the Wexford borough district council.

‘People have been discomoded and I will be raising the problem at the meeting,’ said the Independent member.

Asked about the situation by this newspaper, Wexford County Council said that on May 2 it was contacted by a resident of St John’s Drive who had expressed concern about parking adjacent to his property.

‘ The council will investigate the matters complained of and fully engage with the individual concerned with a view to resolving the situation,’ said communications officer David Minogue.

‘ The resolution of these issues is likely to involve the cooperation of contractors working in the area and may also include assistance from An Garda Siochana,’ he said.
