Two recording bursaries for emerging musical talent

- By

TWO recording bursaries are available to emerging musical talent in Wexford.

The Recording Development Bursaries which are a joint venture with Orchard Recording, the Arts Department of Wexford County Council and the Arts Council, are part of the Room to Record music technology programme.

This has been up and running in Wexford since 2012 and was established to enhance the opportunities available to Wexford’s emerging musical talent.

Under the programme bands/artists/singer-songwriters living in Wexford are invited to apply for one of two 12-hour bursaries which will be awarded this year.

Brendan Carthy of Orchard Recording said: ‘ The Recording Development Bursary has been devised to address the need for a greater understanding of professional recording practices/ways of working for emerging bands/artists/singer-songwriters. If you are preparing to record an album, embarking on your first recording experience or looking to increase your skill set within a recording studio environment you should apply.

One of the previous recipients was Corner Boy from Killinick.

Michael D’Arcy, lead singer with Corner Boy, said: ‘We believe that the overall process has helped us garner a greater understanding of the production, recording, editing and writing process’.

A spokesperson for Wexford County Council said: ‘ The Arts Department of Wexford County Council is proud to support the Recording Development Bursaries Programme again this year. Now in its fifth year, this an exciting opportunity for any musician or band to record in a professional studio with the expert support, guidance and production that Orchard Recordings provides. The feedback from previous recipients has been extremely positive and the experience has been highly beneficial to all.’

The Recording Development Bursaries will run in the Orchard Recording Studio Enniscorthy. Applications must be submitted by June 9.
