Two Wexford runners in big final at Leeside track

IT HAS been a very good week for Co. Wexford owners and trainers with two runners qualifying for the final of The Riverside Oscar Stake with a €10,000 winner’s prize this Saturday night at Curraheen Park (Cork).

It would be nice to think the Wexford runners could get the the old one-two but it is a very high-quality final and they will have to get their trapping right on the night.

Toker Forest is in great form, having won his last four races, and was very good in his semi. Breaking fast, he held the persistent challenge of favourite Coolavany Pet by a neck in a fast 28.31 for owner-trainer Philip Lynch (New Ross).

The second semi also went Wexford’s way when the Patricia Flanagan (Gorey)-owned, Noel Walker-trained Fast Fit Alex came from behind Fleetwood Lee to score by a length. This fellow is also in top from, winning two of his three runs at the circuit, so roll on Saturday night for what looks like a cracking final.

At Enniscorthy the final of the annual April Stake was the week’s feature, and things went to plan for hot favourite Tagalong Roy who went through the stake unbeaten and was again very professional.

Breaking well from his trap one draw, he was in command and again it was Piercestown Moll who chased him hard all the way, but Tagalong was never in any danger and won like an odds-on favourite should to record his 22nd race win and give his owners, John Codd and Diana Brody (Enniscorthy), a nice cheque of €2,650.

A big thank you to sponsor Peter Davis (Doncaster, Great Britain).

There was some superb runs in Waterford last Saturday night, with the Joe Anglim-trained Chancem owned by the Ratpack Six syndicate (Ballymitty) finally getting his trapping in order.

This fast greyhound has shown what he can do in his last two races as he raced to a superb 31.08 semi-final win in the Molloy Butchers 575 stake. He is in trap six again for this week’s final and will be hard to beat if trapping on terms.

Barntown trainer Nick Turner also had a flying winner in race eight when Coco Blaze flew the lids and ran right away from his field to score an easy seven and a half length win in a fine 28.47.

Liam Butler Snr. from Wexford town had a good win in race two when Annnacurra Sam ran a very good race to come from behind to score in a good 28.69.

Racing continues at Enniscorthy every Monday and Thursday night. For a fun night out, go greyhound racing.
