Classy Corach crowned champions DIVISION 1

CORACH Ramblers were crowned Division 1 champions last Tuesday when nearest challenger­s Bridge Rovers lost out to local rivals Curracloe United 2-1 in their derby clash.

The Carrig-on-Bannow based outfit then when on to celebrate their success in style with a 5-2 away win over Forth Celtic and a 2-1 win over Bridge Rovers on their travels.

Niall Harney (two), John Staples, Darren Sinnott and Philly Murphy got the goals in Murrintown, with Sinnott and Gareth McCurtin hitting the back of the net in Castlebrid­ge.

It has been a phenominal campaign for Ramblers as they secured their place in the top tier of Wexford football for the first time in 24 years. Managed by Toddy Barry, with Paul Diskin as his assistant, they have been the outstandin­g team in the division all season, scoring 86 goals in all competitio­ns to date, with 53 of them coming in the league.

Top scorer Niall Harney contribute­d 24 of those, with John Staples hot on his heels with 19.

Their outstandin­g player, Gareth McCurtin, was honoured with the Division 1 Horse & Hound Player of the Year award, while they are captained by centre-half Aaron Diskin.
