COMMUNITY GAMES UPCOMING EVENTS

Best wishes to the local boys under-12 soccer team in their first round match this Wednesday evening at 7.30 p.m. in Bree against Castlebrid­ge/Crossabeg. Best wishes also to those involved in the Co Talent Competitio­n on this Saturday night in Bree Hall at 6.30 p.m. Bree-Davidstown local Athletic Finals takes place this Thursday, May 11, in Bree GAA Pitch at 6.30 p.m. Registrati­on is from 5.30 p.m. All children aged from six to 16 from the parishes of Bree, Davidstown and Cloughbawn can take part.

BREE UNITED DOG NIGHT

Bree United will host a night at the dogs at Enniscorth­y Greyhound Track on Thursday, May 18, at 7.30 p.m. Admission is €10, children go free. There will be a presentati­on on the night for all of our underage players, men and ladies. There are great prizes to be won. Tickets can be bought from any member of Bree United or via our Facebook page. All support is greatly appreciate­d.

Committee meeting will be held in Bree Community Centre this Tuesday night, May 9, at 8 p.m. A full guild meeting will be on May 16 at 8 p.m. Anyone interested in joining our guild will be most welcome at our guild meeting.

GALBALLY TRACTOR RUN

The annual Galbally Tractor Run in aid of Galbally Parish Funds will take place on Sunday, May 28,

DEFIBRILLA­TOR FUNDRAISIN­G

Fundraisin­g is ongoing and at present we are just over the halfway mark of our target of €2,000. Collection points are in the church, school and Ryan’s bar, Thank you for your support.

MUSIC LESSONS

BREE YOUTH CLUB

The AGM of Bree Youth Club will take place on Tuesday, May 30, at 7.30 p.m. in Bree Community Centre. Parents of all club members are asked to attend.

Members are reminded that the summer trips must be fully paid up before Youth Club breaks for the summer on Friday, May 19.

Junior members will travel to Lough Key Forest Park in Roscommon on Saturday, May 27, for a day of adventure and activities.

Senior members will spend the weekend of July 14 to July 17 in Wales.

The winner of Bree Youth Club’s most recent split-thepot draw was Alison Furlong, Borrmount. The next draw will take place on Friday, May 19, during Youth Club. Envelopes are available in local shops and at the Youth Club each Friday night. Please support this venture as all funds raised will go back into the youth club.

On Friday, April 28, 48 members of Bree Youth Club travelled to the Aviva Stadium to support the Leinster rugby team in their match against Glasgow Warriors. All were delighted with the victory for Leinster.

Plans are currently in motion for the club’s end-of-year party which will be held on Friday, May 19, in Bree Community Centre. A number of surprises and activities are being organised, so don’t miss what promises to be a great evening of fun for all members.

TEMPLE STREET FUNDRAISER

A fundraiser for Temple Street Children’s Hospital takes place in the Danby Lodge Hotel on this Tuesday night, May 9. Artists appearing Teddy and Cathal Barry, Jimmy Hogan and Lar Kenny, Moynihan Brothers, Leslie and John ‘Blue Lace’. All musicians have given their services free for this event. Dancing is from 9 p.m. till midnight. Raffle and Door Prize. Admission €7. All money goes directly to Temple Street Children’s Hospital.

BREE-DAVIDSTOWN COMMUNITY GAMES

Well done to all local young people, representi­ng Co Wexford in the Aldi National Community Games Finals in Abbottstow­n last weekend. Eva Bailey won the gold medal in the under-10 backstroke and Abi Cullen won the bronze medal in the under-12 freestyle. Others to reach their respective finals were Holly Furlong (under-14 backstroke) and the squad of Abi, Holly, Jenna Kirwan, Hannah Fitzpatric­k and Claire Whelan. Others taking part were Ruairi Swan, Ava Whelan and Darragh Kirwan. Leah Canavan, Michael Roche and Shane Feeley from Davidstown NS won the fourth place medals in the debating competitio­n. Abbie Doyle, Gracie Kehoe, Lucy Kehoe, Oscar Redmond, Aoibhinn Crean, and Ryan Whelan competed in the middle distance relays with Abbie and Gracie’s team making the final. Tobias Redmond competed in the marathon. Managers for the day were Tracy Cullen and Martina Whelan (swimming), Paul Doyle (athletics) and Clare Doyle (debating).

Hard luck to the under-10 soccer team, who came up against tough opposition on Tuesday night last. The team of Con Fraser, Dylan Martin, Sam Kirwan, Cathal Kelly, Ollie Treacy, Cathal Ennis, Nathan Doyle and Cian Doyle played their heart out against Glynn-Barntown to receive the Co silver medals. Thanks to their mentors Linda Martin, Ann Sullivan Doyle and James Murphy.

BREE AC NEWS

Great news for Bree AC athlete Aoife Cloke Rochford, who will travel to Latvia in June to compete in the CSIT World Sports Games. This is a huge achievemen­t for the club and a great opportunit­y for Aoife. A total of 17 individual gold, nine individual silver and six individual bronze medals as well as three relay gold were won by club athletes in the county championsh­ips on Sunday last. The next club outings will be the Mr Oil County Championsh­ips on this Sunday the 14th in the Hub, Enniscorth­y, for the final day of county championsh­ips. Leinster Relays Championsh­ips are on Sunday, May 21, in Kildare. Best wishes to all involved.
