GREAT SOUTHERN HOTEL

Following an expression of concern and a visit from Cllr Ger Carty to Rosslare Harbour to highlight the problems around the old Great Southern Hotel building, and at the request of several concerned citizens, a public meeting will take place in the Railway Social Club hall on Tuesday, May 16, at 7.30 p.m. organised by Bernie Mullen.

Invitations will be sent to all local county councillors, to Tom Enright, chief executive of Wexford County Council and to Tony Larkin, director of services of Wexford County Council. All interested and concerned members of the public should attend this important meeting.

The state of the building, safety and security around the premises and the ongoing antisocial behaviour issues centred on the property have to be addressed. The community has been patient for long enough. This situation cannot be allowed to continue and urgent action is now needed.

BEREAVEMENTS

The community were saddened and shocked to hear of the sudden death of Patricia (Pat) Sheil, who passed away on April 21. Pat (née Murphy), who was a native of Boleys Cross, Kilmore, was a very gentle lady and always had a word and a smile for everyone she met. Pat was predeceased by her husband Fran. She will be sorely missed by her many friends and especially her beloved children Corinna, James and Michelle, grandchildren Cian, Eoghan, Robbie, Cora and Kyle, sisters Catherine and Margaret, brotherin-law Michael, sons-in-law Paddy and Robbie, nieces and nephews. Pat’s funeral Mass was celebrated in St Patrick’s Church, Rosslare Harbour, and she was laid to rest in St Aidan’s Cemetery, Kilrane.

We extend sympathy to Cathleen McCleane (née Halligan) and family, Casa Rio, Wexford, on the death of her husband Bill. His funeral Mass was celebrated in Bride Street Church with burial afterwards in St Aidan’s Cemetery, Kilrane.

Sympathy to Kathleen Doyle, Kilrane, on the loss of her brother Andrew Doyle, The Faythe, Wexford; condolences to Breda Byrne, Greenore Park, on the death of her aunt Maura Doyle, Dunlavin, Co Wicklow; to Jack Murphy, Tuskamore Terrace, we extend sympathy on the passing of his mother Teresa, Oulart-The Ballagh; to Molly Farrell on the loss of her brother Kieran, who passed away in America; to Carmel Lonergan on the passing of her uncle Eddie Murphy, a Waterford native who lived in England. May they all rest in peace.

ENVIRONMENT GROUP NOTES

The Rosslare Harbour-Kilrane Environment Group would like to thank those who came along to support our recent table quiz in the Railway Social Club, the teams that took part and the individuals and businesses that donated the team prizes, and the spot/raffle prizes. We would also like to thank the Railway Social Club for the use of their facilities and all those involved in the organising, and the running of the event on the night. Your help and support was very much appreciated.

As the Tidy Towns adjudicators will be in the area shortly, the group would encourage everyone to make an effort to keep their area clean and tidy. Now is the time to paint that wall and to tidy up the garden. Please don’t forget the bit outside of your property that we just couldn’t get to this year. Every little help is appreciated. The group meets up every Wednesday evening at 6.30 p.m. and on Saturday mornings at 9.30 a.m. in the Memorial Park if you wish to assist us in our endeavours.

Reminder that a WEEE (Waste Electric and Electronic Equipment) cage only for small household electrical goods such as toasters, kettles, DVD players, hairdryers, electric drills, etc. and a container for the recycling of fluorescent tubes is situated at the back of the Railway Social Club. It is open on Saturday Mornings between 10.00 and 11.30 a.m., weather permitting.

The group’s activities can be monitored on their Facebook page ‘Rosslare Harbour/Kilrane Environment Group’
