Katrina on a break

-

THE darting, powerful surges past scared defenders - a staple diet of Katrina Parrock’s game - will not be witnessed on the inter-county field this summer, with the former camogie All Star set to play no part in proceedings.

After eleven seasons on the national stage, the St. Ibar’s/Shelmalier performer decided to take a year out from Wexford commitments at the start of the season and she will not go back on that decision with the All-Ireland series upcoming.

That will not only come as a blow to the struggling Senior camogie management team of John Kelly and Matty Flynn-O’Connor, but also to Anthony Masterson, who had been in contact with the Kilmore footballer to see if she would be willing to commit to the big ball for the summer.

It’s understood that Parrock gave serious consideration to throwing her lot in with the high-flying ladies’ football side, but heavy work commitments stood in her way.

It was a canny move from Masterson, one that could have been a huge difference-maker in the months to come, had it worked out.

Parrock will continue to represent her clubs in both codes throughout the summer months and was part of the Kilmore soccer team which reached the final of the Michelle Coleman Cup last month. She intends to return to the county set-up in future.

Elsewhere, unless some resolution is found, Kelly and Flynn-O’Connor look set to be without Mags D’Arcy after she walked away from training in recent weeks.

With hope of significant progress diminished, the All-Ireland series gets under way with a home game against Offaly on June 24 and is followed with clashes against Munster trio Cork, Tipperary and Limerick.
