music and Singing Lessons continue every Tuesday at the usual times from 3.15 p.m to 5.15 p.m in Crossabeg school.
On Sunday, May 14, a number of students took part in the County Fleadh in Bannow as part of a group of 26 members of the Craobh Loch Garman Comhaltas Ceoltoiri Eireann Branch. Joshua and Kitty Roche, under-12 Grupai Cheoil; Scott O’Reilly under-12 Grupai Cheoil and Button Accordion; Katie Feeney under-15 Grupai Cheoil, Tin Whistle and Button Accordion. Mathew Jordan won a medal in the under-nine Comhra competition and will take part in the Leinster Fleadh in Longford in July. Well done to all.

OPEN DAY
The Open day at Artramon Gardens will take place on Sunday next, May 28, Gates open at 2 p.m and the gardens remain open till 5 p.m. You can stroll around the beautifully kept gardens, have the children explore the Fairy Garden and then enjoy some light refreshments in the garden.
A number of rooms in the downstairs part of the main house will also be open this year to the public. While you are having your cuppa, you can relax and enjoy the lovely music which will be supplied by the Wexford Folk Orchestra. Admission is €5 for adults, with children admitted for free.
DEVELOPMENT LOTTO
Results of the Curracloe United lotto draw for Sunday, May 21, The numbers drawn were 2, 8, 11 and 19. There was one winner of the €20,000 jackpot, so congratulations to Brian Kinsella, Ballinacoola, Curracloe. There were five match-three winners who each received €30, Francis Tobin, Barnahask, Curracloe; Louise Howlin c/o Marie; Ann Doyle Ballyvaloo; Larry Meyler c/o An Post and Colm Murphy, Newfort, Screen. Next week’s jackpot is worth €6,000 and the draw will take place in the Curracloe Tavern on Sunday, May 28, at 9 p.m.
SUMMER SOCCER CAMP
The FAI summer soccer camp is back for 6-14-year-old boys and girls from August 7 to August 11 and takes place at Bridge Rovers AFC. Book now on summersoccerschools.ie. Book early as this camp sold out last year.
FÉILE 2017
This year the Shelmaliers and St Ibar’s are a host club for Féile. The Shelmalier GAA Club will host Rosenallis from Laois in Division 2 Hurling Féile na nGael and St Ibar’s/Shelmaliers will host Modeligo, Waterford in Division 2 camogie Féile na nGael. Best of luck to both local club teams who are looking forward to welcoming the visiting teams.
As Féile is a great weekend for the under-14s there are some expenses, gear for teams etc, so therefore a lot of fundraising has to be done. The club have had a few fundraisers so far and continue to do so. They will hold a cake sale after Mass on June 4 and your support would be greatly appreciated. They hope to have lots of lovely homemade cakes. They would also like to take this opportunity to thank people who have bought lines in their Grand National fundraiser attended the table quiz, donated spot prizes for the raffle or sponsored rounds in the table quiz.

ANNUAL WALK
The annual walk to remember Tracie Lawlor will take place on Sunday, June 11, in Castlebridge. Registration will take place from 10 a.m in Castlebridge Square and the cost is €20 which includes a meal in the Talbot Hotel or €10 to participate in the walk only. The walk gets under way at 11 o’clock from the Square and heads off to the Talbot Hotel where a lovely meal awaits. It is only just over 4km so anyone of any age can take part. CURRACLOE SCHOOL NEWS
The parents’ association of St Margaret’s National School, Curracloe have organised a new and used clothing collection with the National Council for the Blind as a fundraiser for the school. Please leave in your bags of clothes etc. during school hours from now till Thursday, June 1, NCBI will accept the following, new and used clothing, linen, curtains, belts, handbags and shoes. No cushions, duvets or pillows please. NCBI will sell the garments across their 91 shops nationwide and recycle what they cannot use for resale.
Well done to the boys and girls from the school who recently took part in the County Fleadh in Carrick-on-Bannow. All the children did themselves and their music teachers proud. Seán Moran came third in the under-12 lilting and singing competitions. Thanks to Mrs Torpey and her daughter Marie for all their hard work preparing the children for the event.
On Wednesday of last week, fifth and sixth class pupils took part in a Round Robin competition in Wexford Harbour Boat and Tennis Club. A great afternoon of tennis was had by all and the overall winners were Aaron Howlin and Rebecca Fanning. Well done to all the children and thank you to Wexford Harbour Boat and Tennis Club for the use of their facilities.
Well done to recent split-thepot winners, Diane and Ryan Hanrahan, who won €162.
Well done to all the children who received their First Holy Communion in Curracloe church on Sunday week last. Thanks to the school choir who sang so beautifully, to Ms Newman and the parents committee in preparing the children and to the parents committee and all who helped out with refreshments at the post communion party.
GAA ACTION
The Shelmalier Intermediate hurlers had an impressive 1-19 to 3-8 victory over the Faythe Harriers in the All-county hurling league played in Pairc Charman on Saturday last. However, they had to fight hard to gain the victory as the Wexford town team pushed them all the way to the final whistle.
The first quarter of play belonged to the visitors who built up a commanding 1-9 to 0-2 after 15 minutes of play with Joe Kelly very much in command scoring five points and supplying the pass which brother Mick converted to the Harriers net. The other scorers during that period of play were Kyle Roche, Stephen Whelan and Denis Kelly. The Harriers made a late burst as the first half came to a close, scoring 2-1 but the Shels closed strongly with scores from Paraic O’Leary and Denis Kelly.
The Harriers reduced the deficit to just three point after 12 minutes on the resumption bringing their tally to 2-6 but the Shels defence help tight throughout and they ran out eventual winners with Joe Kelly, Denis Kelly, Mick Kelly, Paraic O’Leary and Kyle Roche scoring in the final quarter of the match.
FITTEST TOWNLAND
Excitement is building in the parish as the Shelmalier GAA Club announce the very first running of ‘Shelmaliers Fittest Townland Contest 2017’ which will form part of the annual Shelmalier annual monster field day which will take place in Hollymount on Bank Holiday Monda, June 5 starting at 2 p.m.
In order to claim the crown as the fittest townland the participants will have to overcome a variety of different challenges. With news of this contest spreading, anticipation of the potential winners was discussed in many parts of the parish. It was also reported that contestants were seen in some areas limbering up and making final preparations in order to win this coveted prize.
So will the eventual winners will come from Ballybeg, Ballyhow, Ballyvaloo, Glenbo, Newfort, Ballyboggan, Ballyruan, Mullingower?, that is the question. The only way to find out is to make your way the Hollymount to join in the fun and excitement and to witness the eventual winners.
The whole contest should prove to be great fun from both contestants and spectators alike, so get your team ready. Entry forms and further details may be had from any Shelmalier committee member.
COMMUNITY GAMES
Congratulations to the under-12 boys Soccer team who had a 4-0 victory over Glynn-Barntown in the county final played at the community field in Crossabeg on Sunday evening last. Goal scorers were Paddy Connors (3) and Cormac Mythen (1) and the panel of players were Richard Barlow, Paddy Connors, Evan Cullen, Rory Davis, Chris Frawley, Shane Hall, Darragh Harris, Josh Kinsella, Ciaran Murphy, Cormac Mythen, Harry Sherlock, Darragh O’Neill, Cillian O’Leary, Rian Ormond, Noah Ryan and Connor Somers.
The under-13 B Handball team lost out to Taghmon in the county semi-final, while their A team met Taghmon in the final. Alas, they lost out to Taghmon and came away with the county silver medals. The under-16 team also fell short and went down in their semi-final to a team from Taghmon.
The under-13 B team members were Killian Buckley, Seán Denton, Robert Lambert, Adam Murphy and Joshua Roche, and the A team were represented by Eamonn Moran, Niall Cullen, Adam Murphy, Jack Purcell and Ros Walker. The under-16 team members were Joe Devereux, David Doyle, Kieran Hearne and Shane Kelly. Well done to their mentors John Roche and Pádraig Devereux for getting the boys ready for the competitions, to Virgina Hanrahan, and to the local handball club in Castlebridge for the use of their premises for the finals. Field day.
The Shelmalier monster field day will take place in Hollymount on Monday, June 5, beginning at 2 p.m. This annual event has always proved a great parish social occasion where the people of the parish and beyond meet and join in the fun and enjoyment of the traditional field day.
This year’s event has all the local favourites such as a barbecue, live music, duck racing, face painting, sheep racing, children’s sports, hurling and football skills, crazy golf, bottle stall, fishing for bottles and much much more for the whole family to enjoy. The Shelmalier GAA Club will again be looking for your support in supplying bottles and produce to the stalls and they will be distributing leaflets and collecting items during the week preceding the field day.
