Major turnaround in form in greyhound stakes

-

THE SECOND round of the George Hair Fashions Unraced Stake was completed at Enniscorthy Dog Track last week and, as predicted, there was some turnaround in form in the space of a week.

Heat one saw the first favourite turned over as Mairéads Gem moved out from trap three, tangling with runners four, five and six. Trap one runner Pint Of Sausages led down the back and ran on well to hold the finishing run of Southest Rising with Maireads in third. The time was 29.30.

Heat two again saw the favourite turned over in a very troublesome race. It was again trap one’s Cow Lane Lad who came through at the third bend and battled it out with Hot Diggity Dog to the line to get the win by the minimum distance in a time of 29.21.

Heat three was the race of the night as the two best runners in the stake had a battle royal from the second bend onwards.

Forest Karen, quickest in round one, tracked nicely around the first bend and looked to have control, however Mairéads Sky showed a fine burst of pace down the back to take over by the third bend. Forest was not giving in though and they battled to the line, with Mairéads getting the verdict by a neck in a very good 28.83.

Heat four went to Rocknroll Mayo who passed leader Whitefort Nev off the last bend and came home a snug winner in a time of 29.27. It was a good night for Wexford owners and trainers at Waterford on Friday also as Strictly Buster, owned by George Roche of Barntown, scored in the €900 S2 sprint final in a time of 17.86.

Another Barntown man, trainer Nick Turner, won the other final with the A4 1,200 prize going to Coco Princess, her time a useful 29.02.

There are two fundraising nights this coming week with the Glenbrien N.S. on this Thursday night, while on Monday night, June 5, the Bree Hunt will have their night.
