Let’s hear it for the boys!
PAST pupil Dr David Dempsey was full of encouragement when he addressed the boys of Wexford CBS secondary school as guest speaker at the annual awards ceremony for 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 5th Years in the Riverbank House Hotel.
A pupil of Wexford CBS from 1968 to 1973, David is an Executive Director and Senior Vice President at Salesforce, a company recognised by Forbes as the World’s Most Innovative Company in 2011, 2012, and 2013. Salesforce has also been named one of Fortune 100’s Best Companies to Work For, eight years in a row.
At the Transition Year awards, held in the school, TY head Sinéad Breen gave an overview of what has been a very successful year, while principal Michael McMahon spoke of the widely acknowledged benefits of that extra year in school.
Transition Year students gave detailed accounts of their trips to China and Germany, as well as numerous activities they did throughout the year. Certificates were then awarded to each student for their achievements.
At the Leaving Certificate class of 2017 presentations in the school, at which various subject awards were handed out, the most prestigious award, The Edmund Rice Award, was this year presented to two students, Alex Eydt and Tony Wilde.
Nominees and winners of this award are considered to be the students who best exemplify the spirit of the school.
Principal Michael McMahon congratulated the award winners and praised the boys for their hard work and commitment during the last academic year.
