Club Wexford raising funds

IT WON’T be a cheap Saturday for those attending the €100 Club Wexford plate luncheon - but it helped secure a much-coveted ticket for the eagerly-anticipated Wexford v. Kilkenny Leinster Senior hurling semi-final at Innovate Wexford Park later in the evening.

Club Wexford saw the meeting of the arch-rivals as an opportunity for much-needed fundraising so set about the task of selling tables of ten for €1,000.

‘We set a target of 20 tables,’ Club Wexford Chairman, Tom Doyle, said. ‘We have 19 tables booked which we have decided as the cut-off point.

‘We have been allocated 200 match tickets for the luncheon, so that will give us ten tickets to play around with. We decided on this some weeks ago and it has been a huge success.

‘The luncheon will get under way in the Talbot Hotel at 3.30 p.m., after which everyone will take in the game that evening,’ he said.

Although there has been a huge outcry over the allocation of tickets, Club Wexford have been successful in their venture, both in the raising of finance and ensuring that those who support them will secure their match ticket.

However, there was no such success for the much-heralded Supporters’ Club pre-championship forum which was listed for the Ashdown Hotel in Gorey on Thursday night last.

Team managers Davy Fitzgerald and Seamus McEnaney were to be joined on the panel by Kate Kelly and Tom Dempsey, but with little support on the night the event was called off.

It would appear that the loyal Wexford supporters are already voting with their feet, possibly in protest at their failure to secure match tickets.
