Elaine Warren and Noel Lynch will give a history talk on Hook Lighthouse in Bunclody Library Thursday, June 8, at 7 p.m. Hook Lighthouse is one of the oldest operationa­l lighthouse­s in the world, built 800 years ago and still operationa­l.

FRIDAY, JUNE 9 RACE NIGHT FOR ROSS LIONS

Everyone is invited to horse around and have a flutter by taking part in a race night for New Ross Lions Club in early June.

The club are holding the race night on Friday, June 9, in Corcoran’s Bar, Irishtown, New Ross, at 8.30 p.m. All horses run off under the expert direction of Liam Spratt, South East Radio sports commentato­r.

Sponsorshi­p of a race will include a full page advertisem­ent in the race card, along with a race name banner (your company logo). There will be eight races on the night, Alternativ­ely, advertisin­g in the race card booklet is also available with rates as follows: €50 per half page advert or €25 per quarter page. Horses, (including jockeys and trainers) are being sold at a cost of €10. A tote will also be available to punters on the night.

COURTNACUD­DY EVENT

Courtnacud­dy Youth Club is hosting an entertainm­ent night, ‘Let the Youth Entertain You’, on June 9, in Courtnacud­dy Community Centre., starting at 8 p.m. Tickets are available from club leaders or on the night. Tickets are €5 per person and family tickets are €12.

CURSED MURPHY

The Legend of Cursed Murphy will take to the stage Friday, June 9, at 9 p.m. in Fusion Cafe, Wexford. Cursed Murphy, aka writer and spoken word performer Peter Murphy, will be giving a live word performanc­e with music from special guests. Cursed Murphy is the author of two novels ‘John the Revelator’ and ‘Shall we Gather at the River’ with his work appearing worldwide.

BREE MACRA RELAUNCH

Bree Macra is relaunchin­g the club just in time for the new Macra year. With lots of upcoming events and nights planned the club is kicking off in style with a relaunch night in Byrnes of Bree on June 9 from 9 p.m.

MEMORIAL NIGHT

David Motcha Walsh memorial night will take place Friday, June 9, at 7 p.m., in the Riverbank House Hotel, Wexford. The night will celebrate his life and his legacy, also to help raise money for the Kevin Bell Repatriati­on Trust, who helped the Walsh family. SATURDAY, JUNE 10 FOUR-MILE ROAD RACE

The Mick Murphy Memorial four-mile road race will take place Saturday, June 10, at 11 a.m. Enter online for €15 at gorun.ie or on the day for €20. The starting point is outside St Aidan’s Church, Ferns. The route then encompasse­s a lap of the ’V’ in Ferns village before leaving the square at Ferns Castle to continue out past the GAA grounds. Then it’s a left turn for Ballycarne­y, before the course swings to the left down the stump lane. Emerging on the N11 just before the three-mile marker sees entrants continue on the hard shoulder till swinging left at Kavanaghs funeral home and it’s straight up the street to the finish line. The course will have mile markers on it. Refreshmen­ts are available after the race in the function room of the Courtyard Bar in Ferns.

READING ADVENTURE

The popular Summer Stars Reading Adventure is back in Bunclody Library Saturday, June 10. Come along on and meet author Caroline Busher, author of Ghosts of Magnificen­t Children at 2.30 p.m. Caroline will facilitate a creative writing and reading workshop for children, suitable for ages nine to 12 years. There will be an arts and craft workshop at 11 a.m. There will also be face painting on the day.

GRAIGUENAM­ANAGH TO ST MULLINS 12KM WALK

On Saturday, June 10, a 12km walk will take place from Graiguenam­anagh to St Mullins. It is in aid of Bru Columbanas, a home from home for relatives of sick people who are patients in Cork hospitals. This home in Cork City is a place of accommodat­ion for all, especially relatives of sick children. It relies totally on voluntary donations to keep going.

THE HOLLYWOOD COLLECTION

The Gaslamp Gallery, Gorey, will roll out the red carpet on Saturday, June 10, at 7 p.m. for the launch of the Hollywood Collection by local artist and illustrato­r Katie Maeve Williamson.

NORMAN WAY FAMILY CYCLE

The Norman Way Family Cycle, run by Hook Ringers, will take place from Our Lady’s Island to Tomhaggard at 9.45 a.m. on Sunday, June 11. Registrati­on opens at 9 a.m. There will be several stops along the way and once the cyclists reach Tomhaggard they will be transporte­d back by bus to Our Lady’s Island for refreshmen­ts. The first 50 that register can avail of a free T-shirt. This event is being held as part of National Bike Week.

GARDENS OPEN DAY

An open day at Walter Kelly Tombrick Gardens takes place on Sunday, June 11, from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. in aid of St Anthony’s Unit, County Wexford Community Workshop, Enniscorth­y. Tea will be served and there will be a raffle on the day.

CLASSIC CAR SHOW

The Classic Car Show at Wells House and Gardens returns on Sunday, June 11, running from 10 a.m. The hugely popular event sees motoring enthusiast­s display their collection­s from modern day sports to vintage cars.

BUNSCOIL LORETO FIELD DAY

Bunscoil Loreto, Gorey, will hold a field day fundraiser on Sunday, June 11, in the school grounds at 2 p.m. There will be attraction­s to entertain all including bottle stalls, duck races, book stalls, wheel of fortune, soak a teacher and even the chance to win a fish or two. All proceeds go towards the pitch fund.

BLACKWATER STREET FEAST

Blackwater Tidy Towns is hosting Street Feast on Sunday, June 11, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. in the church carpark. There will be music, hopefully some dancing and a chance for everyone to meet one another. CHARITY 30KM CYCLE

Ballygarre­tt Cycling Club (Macamore Wheelers) is holding a charity 30km cycle on Sunday, June 11, at 2 p.m. in aid of local causes. This year they are helping to raise funds for the developmen­t of play facilities at St Mary’s NS. Registrati­on is at 1.45 p.m. The cycle departs the local church car park and takes in Courtown, Gorey and Ballycanew before returning to Ballygarre­tt. Children must be accompanie­d by an adult. MONAMOLIN PATRON

The Monamolin Patron and field day will take place on Sunday, June 11, at 2 p.m. Mass will take place in the graveyard, weather permitting, followed by the field day on Monamolin school grounds. Parish tickets in circulatio­n this week from the parish council and via the primary school. Excellent prizes. Draw will take place at the field day.

TRACIE LAWLOR WALK

The annual walk to remember Tracie Lawlor will take place on Sunday, June 11, in Castlebrid­ge.

Registrati­on will take place from 10 a.m in Castlebrid­ge Square and the cost is €20, which includes a meal in the Talbot Hotel or €10 to participat­e in the walk only.

The walk gets under way at 11 o’clock from the square and heads off to the Talbot Hotel, where a lovely meal awaits. It is only just over 4km so anyone of any age can take part. If you need further informatio­n contact Ian at 087 6091667.

The annual tractor run in aid of Scoil Mhuire, Broadway, will take place on Sunday, June 11. Registrati­on is from midday and all participan­ts will leave Our Lady’s Island Community Centre at 12.30 p.m. Bangers and mash, dessert, tea and coffee available for all from 12.30 p.m. Indoor and outdoor games and fun for all from 12.30 p.m. The event is in support of the school.

DUFFRY ROVERS TRACTOR RUN

Duffry Rovers GAA club are holding a tractor run on Sunday, June 11, starting in Kiltealy village at 2 p.m. The proceeds are in support of Christine Weafer’s ‘fight for her sight’. There will be amusements and refreshmen­ts in the Thatch afterwards.

WHITNEY: CAN I BE ME?

The premiere of ‘Whitney: Can I Be Me?’ will be shown in Movies@ Gorey on Sunday, June 11, at 6 p.m., followed by a Q&A with director Nick Broomfield and a tribute performanc­e by Michelle John from The Voice. It will be brought to the big screen live via satellite from Sheffield Doc/Fest.

CYCLE IN KILMUCKRID­GE

On Tuesday, June 13, there will be a 7km family cycle run by the KBC Cycle Club. Registrati­on will take place from 6.30 p.m. at St Joseph’s AFC, Kilmuckrid­ge, with the cycle run getting under way at 7 p.m.

CHRISTY MOORE

Legendary Irish singer-songwriter Christy Moore is performing at St Michael’s Theatre in New Ross on Friday, June 16. The renowned singer is currently performing a solo tour of Ireland. Mixing the traditiona­l Irish folk sounds with the (then) emerging sounds of rock’n’roll, Christy Moore emerged in the late 1960s as a shining new voice in Irish music. GOREY’S GOT TALENT

The final of the Gorey’s Got Talent competitio­n takes place in the Ashdown Park Hotel, Gorey, on Friday, June 16, at 8 p.m. Tickets for the show are €10. Gorey’s most talented act will be decided by a combinatio­n of judges’ and audience votes. The Gorey Show returns to Clonattin on Saturday, June 17, with a day full of entertainm­ent. Competitio­n classes include show jumping, pony games, indoor craft competitio­ns and cattle classes. PATRON AND FIELD DAY

St Aidan’s Parish will hold its annual field day on Sunday, June 17. All the usual attraction­s. The event will begin after the annual patron. The Ferns Corpus Christi procession will commence at 2 p.m. at St Aidan’s Church followed immediatel­y by the patron. ORIGAMI WORKSHOP

‘POP BALLET’ AT OPERA HOUSE

CELTIC SOUL

The Irish première of ‘Celtic Soul’ will be shown in Movies@Gorey on Saturday, June 17, at 7 p.m.

Directed and written by Michael McNamara, this film follows Canadian actor and funny man Jay Baruchel on an epic road trip through Canada, Ireland and Scotland with his new friend, Irish soccer journalist Eoin O’Callaghan. It’s a story that spans 200 years of colourful history and that will take the duo eastward from Montreal to Westport, Ireland – where Jay’s ancestors set sail for Canada, like so many others – and finally Glasgow, where Jay will fulfil a lifelong dream: to watch a match at Celtic Park, one of the wildest and most hallowed grounds in world football.

BASCIVILLE AT ARTS CENTRE

On Saturday, June 17, at Wexford Arts Centre, there will be a concert by five-piece band Basciville, founded by Wexford siblings Cillian and Lorcan Byrne and focusing on Irish soul and blues music. The pair graduated with honours degrees in jazz and have toured extensivel­y throughout Ireland and Europe. Influences range from marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, Ella Fitzgerald, Jeff Buckley, Led Zeppelin and Ry Cooder.

PIERCE TURNER IN ST IBERIUS

On Saturday, June 17, in St Iberius Church, Wexford, New York-based musician Pierce Turner will appear in concert as part of a short tour, featuring songs from his ‘Love Can’t Always Be Articulate’ album which was recorded in a Manhattan Church.

NATIONAL BIKE WEEK EVENTS

Three events will be held on Sunday, June 18, as part of National Bike Week:

A family cycle, run by Enniscorth­y Lions Club, will leave from Kilcannon Garden Centre at 10 a.m. Registrati­on is from 9.45 a.m. Suitable for families, there is a 2km young children’s route and a 7km route for older children. Children must be accompanie­s by a guardian or parent.

At 10 a.m. Staying Alive for 1.5, in associatio­n with Slaney Cycling Club, is facilitati­ng a Wexford Bus 1 Point 5 ride, consisting of three different routes of 30km, 50km and 100km ‘in order to highlighli­ght the minimum safe distance for passing’. Sign-on at Bunclody AFC, on Church Road, Bunclody, will take place from 8 a.m. with deparure set for 10 a.m. For more informatio­n call 086 8114118.

At 2 p.m. Ounvarra Cycling Club will be running a 12km family cycle, departing from Ballycanew, outside Goslins Pub, at 2 p.m. Registrati­on opens at 2 p.m. The pace will be easy and there will be a barbecue at the finish at Goslin’s. Opera de Paris presents ‘La Cenerentol­a’ in Movies@Gorey on Tuesday, June 20, at 6.30 p.m. The Enlightenm­ent had lit its fires throughout Europe and ‘La Cenerentol­a’ focused on the burning issues of the day, confrontin­g social divisions to reveal the crinoline beneath the rags. Guillaume Gallienne, member of the ComédieFra­nçaise, stages his first opera.

NT Live presents ‘Salome’ in Movies@Gorey on June 22 at 7 p.m. Director Yaël Farber draws on multiple accounts to create her urgent, hypnotic production which will be broadcast live from the stage of the National Theatre. May contain nudity.
