Elaine Warren and Noel Lynch will give a history talk on Hook Lighthouse in Bunclody Library Thursday, June 8, at 7 p.m. Hook Lighthouse is one of the oldest operational lighthouses in the world, built 800 years ago and still operational.
FRIDAY, JUNE 9 RACE NIGHT FOR ROSS LIONS
Everyone is invited to horse around and have a flutter by taking part in a race night for New Ross Lions Club in early June.
The club are holding the race night on Friday, June 9, in Corcoran’s Bar, Irishtown, New Ross, at 8.30 p.m. All horses run off under the expert direction of Liam Spratt, South East Radio sports commentator.
Sponsorship of a race will include a full page advertisement in the race card, along with a race name banner (your company logo). There will be eight races on the night, Alternatively, advertising in the race card booklet is also available with rates as follows: €50 per half page advert or €25 per quarter page. Horses, (including jockeys and trainers) are being sold at a cost of €10. A tote will also be available to punters on the night.

The Legend of Cursed Murphy will take to the stage Friday, June 9, at 9 p.m. in Fusion Cafe, Wexford. Cursed Murphy, aka writer and spoken word performer Peter Murphy, will be giving a live word performance with music from special guests. Cursed Murphy is the author of two novels ‘John the Revelator’ and ‘Shall we Gather at the River’ with his work appearing worldwide.

SATURDAY, JUNE 10 FOUR-MILE ROAD RACE
The Mick Murphy Memorial four-mile road race will take place Saturday, June 10, at 11 a.m. Enter online for €15 at gorun.ie or on the day for €20. The starting point is outside St Aidan’s Church, Ferns. The route then encompasses a lap of the ’V’ in Ferns village before leaving the square at Ferns Castle to continue out past the GAA grounds. Then it’s a left turn for Ballycarney, before the course swings to the left down the stump lane. Emerging on the N11 just before the three-mile marker sees entrants continue on the hard shoulder till swinging left at Kavanaghs funeral home and it’s straight up the street to the finish line. The course will have mile markers on it. Refreshments are available after the race in the function room of the Courtyard Bar in Ferns.
READING ADVENTURE
The popular Summer Stars Reading Adventure is back in Bunclody Library Saturday, June 10. Come along on and meet author Caroline Busher, author of Ghosts of Magnificent Children at 2.30 p.m. Caroline will facilitate a creative writing and reading workshop for children, suitable for ages nine to 12 years. There will be an arts and craft workshop at 11 a.m. There will also be face painting on the day.

GRAIGUENAMANAGH TO ST MULLINS 12KM WALK
On Saturday, June 10, a 12km walk will take place from Graiguenamanagh to St Mullins. It is in aid of Bru Columbanas, a home from home for relatives of sick people who are patients in Cork hospitals. This home in Cork City is a place of accommodation for all, especially relatives of sick children. It relies totally on voluntary donations to keep going.

NORMAN WAY FAMILY CYCLE
The Norman Way Family Cycle, run by Hook Ringers, will take place from Our Lady’s Island to Tomhaggard at 9.45 a.m. on Sunday, June 11. Registration opens at 9 a.m. There will be several stops along the way and once the cyclists reach Tomhaggard they will be transported back by bus to Our Lady’s Island for refreshments. The first 50 that register can avail of a free T-shirt. This event is being held as part of National Bike Week.

All proceeds go towards the pitch fund.
BLACKWATER STREET FEAST
Blackwater Tidy Towns is hosting Street Feast on Sunday, June 11, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. in the church carpark. There will be music, hopefully some dancing and a chance for everyone to meet one another. CHARITY 30KM CYCLE
Ballygarrett Cycling Club (Macamore Wheelers) is holding a charity 30km cycle on Sunday, June 11, at 2 p.m. in aid of local causes. This year they are helping to raise funds for the development of play facilities at St Mary’s NS. Registration is at 1.45 p.m. The cycle departs the local church car park and takes in Courtown, Gorey and Ballycanew before returning to Ballygarrett. Children must be accompanied by an adult. The Monamolin Patron and field day will take place on Sunday, June 11, at 2 p.m. Mass will take place in the graveyard, weather permitting, followed by the field day on Monamolin school grounds. TRACIE LAWLOR WALK
The annual walk to remember Tracie Lawlor will take place on Sunday, June 11, in Castlebridge.
Registration will take place from 10 a.m in Castlebridge Square and the cost is €20, which includes a meal in the Talbot Hotel or €10 to participate in the walk only.
The walk gets under way at 11 o’clock from the square and heads off to the Talbot Hotel, where a lovely meal awaits. It is only just over 4km so anyone of any age can take part. If you need further information contact Ian at 087 6091667.

The annual tractor run in aid of Scoil Mhuire, Broadway, will take place on Sunday, June 11. Legendary Irish singer-songwriter Christy Moore is performing at St Michael’s Theatre in New Ross on Friday, June 16. The renowned singer is currently performing a solo tour of Ireland. Mixing the traditional Irish folk sounds with the (then) emerging sounds of rock’n’roll, Christy Moore emerged in the late 1960s as a shining new voice in Irish music. GOREY’S GOT TALENT
The final of the Gorey’s Got Talent competition takes place in the Ashdown Park Hotel, Gorey, on Friday, June 16, at 8 p.m. Tickets for the show are €10. CELTIC SOUL
The Irish première of ‘Celtic Soul’ will be shown in Movies@Gorey on Saturday, June 17, at 7 p.m.
Directed and written by Michael McNamara, this film follows Canadian actor and funny man Jay Baruchel on an epic road trip through Canada, Ireland and Scotland with his new friend, Irish soccer journalist Eoin O’Callaghan. It’s a story that spans 200 years of colourful history and that will take the duo eastward from Montreal to Westport, Ireland – where Jay’s ancestors set sail for Canada, like so many others – and finally Glasgow, where Jay will fulfil a lifelong dream: to watch a match at Celtic Park, one of the wildest and most hallowed grounds in world football.
BASCIVILLE AT ARTS CENTRE
On Saturday, June 17, at Wexford Arts Centre, there will be a concert by five-piece band Basciville, founded by Wexford siblings Cillian and Lorcan Byrne and focusing on Irish soul and blues music. The pair graduated with honours degrees in jazz and have toured extensively throughout Ireland and Europe. Influences range from marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, Ella Fitzgerald, Jeff Buckley, Led Zeppelin and Ry Cooder.
PIERCE TURNER IN ST IBERIUS
On Saturday, June 17, in St Iberius Church, Wexford, New York-based musician Pierce Turner will appear in concert as part of a short tour, featuring songs from his ‘Love Can’t Always Be Articulate’ album which was recorded in a Manhattan Church.

NATIONAL BIKE WEEK EVENTS
Three events will be held on Sunday, June 18, as part of National Bike Week:
A family cycle, run by Enniscorthy Lions Club, will leave from Kilcannon Garden Centre at 10 a.m. Registration is from 9.45 a.m. Suitable for families, there is a 2km young children’s route and a 7km route for older children. Children must be accompanies by a guardian or parent.
At 10 a.m. Staying Alive for 1.5, in association with Slaney Cycling Club, is facilitating a Wexford Bus 1 Point 5 ride, consisting of three different routes of 30km, 50km and 100km ‘in order to highlighlight the minimum safe distance for passing’. Sign-on at Bunclody AFC, on Church Road, Bunclody, will take place from 8 a.m. with deparure set for 10 a.m. For more information call 086 8114118.
At 2 p.m. Ounvarra Cycling Club will be running a 12km family cycle, departing from Ballycanew, outside Goslins Pub, at 2 p.m. Registration opens at 2 p.m. The pace will be easy and there will be a barbecue at the finish at Goslin’s. Opera de Paris presents ‘La Cenerentola’ in Movies@Gorey on Tuesday, June 20, at 6.30 p.m. The Enlightenment had lit its fires throughout Europe and ‘La Cenerentola’ focused on the burning issues of the day, confronting social divisions to reveal the crinoline beneath the rags. Guillaume Gallienne, member of the ComédieFrançaise, stages his first opera.
