Your dog can get some love and attention every day

-

THERE is a warm and friendly welcome waiting for your dog at Bed & Biscuit, a luxury new boarding kennels in Kilmore village where the owners strive to ensure that all dogs enjoy their stay and get some love and attention every day.

The hotel for dogs is a labour of love for Yvonne Rossiter and Ian Hepworth who are both big softies when it comes to looking after canine guests.

‘We understand that putting your dogs in kennels can be worrying and we aim to put your mind at rest while also ensuring that your dog loves his holiday pad,’ said Yvonnne, a physiotherapist and former executive who has given up her healthcare career to pursue her longheld dream of working with animals.

‘Our philosophy is that every dog deserves our love and the best of services when staying with us,’ said Yvonne who took time in researching kennel facilities abroad before the kennels opened earlier this month.

‘In doing research for the kennels, I began to realise that there are a significant number of people who do not go on holiday because they are nervous about leaving their dogs. This strengthened my resolve to build a safe haven for dogs while their owners take a well-earned break.’

Bed & Biscuit is a quality purpose built facility with bright and warm kennels fitted with glass doors for visibility, hygiene and sound muffling, and a large indoor play area where guests can romp around.

The owners have plans to open a dog spa and grooming studio soon, offering a range of treatments.

‘We know that dogs are sociable and like company so we have included indoor and outdoor play areas for those that want to play and make new friends but for those dogs that prefer their own company we have nice long walks close by that we will accompany them on,’ said Yvonne.

Yvonne and her husband Ian began working on the project a year ago. ‘We started the whole process rolling in May of 2016. We are delighted with the result. It’s everything we hoped for. It’s a huge change for me and I love it,’ she said.

Each of the cottage-style fully-insulated kennels has a raised orthopaedic bed with a fleecy topper but owners can bring their dog’s own bed if they wish. You are also encouraged to leave a piece of clothing that smells like you as the scent will comfort your dog and help curb their separation anxiety. Bed & Biscuit supplies food but most people bring their own as a change in diet can upset a dog’s stomach.

As in a hotel, you and your dog will be met at reception when you first arrive so you can have a chat about your pet’s needs.

Bed & Biscuit has a shop selling a range of top quality dog products including handmade up-cycled wood beds, dog bowls, collars and leads.

The kennel rates are €16 a day for one dog; €27 for two dogs and €36 for three dogs.
