Athletics: Glynn NS recently won the DMP inter school athletics competitio­n held in Sinnottsto­wn Lane. The team put in a great effort and it was a great source of pride to the school.

Rackard League: Our Rackard League camogie team were unluckily defeated by Loreto Gorey in the Rackard League semi-final while the boys rounders team were unlucky to lose to Barntown in their semi-final.

SUMMER CAMP

TARA VILLA CHILDCARE

Tara Villa Childcare is now enrolling for September 2017 and spaces are limited. We are offering two free ECCE pre-school/ montessori years for children from three years up to school-going age. Also available is a part time sessional service for children from two years upwards, We are also offering a ‘before and after school’ service as well as a Homework Club in Barntown National School. BARNTOWN CHURCH NEWS

Weekly envelope collection: Thanks to James White for his recent presentati­on of the parish accounts. It is projected that the church requires a weekly envelope collection of €700 to meet its commitment­s. Last week’s collection realised €544.70 for which we are immensely grateful. Should you wish to become a contributo­r to the collection, envelope boxes are available from the parish office. Opening hours are Monday to Thursday 9.30 a.m. to 2 p.m. The office is situated behind the church.

SOLSTICE 5K WALK

The Hope Cancer Support Centre will hold their annual summer Solstice 5K Walk and Ceremony of Light and Healing in Curracloe Beach on Wednesday, June 21, at 8 p.m. Everyone invited to come along and be part of this very special ceremony and to enjoy a peaceful and serene walk on this beautiful beach.

CAMOGIE

Our under-10 camogie team played against Davidstown-Courtnacud­dy away on Wednesday evening. It was a great game from the girls which ended in a draw.

Our under-12 ‘GOLIATH’ camogie team played the first game of the season against St Martin’s in Piercestow­n. After a tough game and against the wind in the second half, team GOLIATH came out on top with a full time score of 2: one to 0: two.

Our under-12 camogie ‘WARRIORS’ team lived up to their name and battled hard on Thursday evening in Killurin. However, despite a great start and their best efforts, the Shamrocks came out on top. Thanks to Tony Butler for refereeing.

FÉILE NA NGAEL 2017

After months of hard work, planning, anticipati­on and preparatio­n the Féile weekend has swept by in a blaze of energy, games, excitement, companions­hip, and cooperatio­n. We thank the three visiting clubs Éire Óg, Annacarty Co. Tipperary, St Fechin’s, Termonfeck­in Co. Louth and Na Piarsaigh Co. Westmeath for their company and courtesy over the weekend and wish them well in the rest of the playing season, safe in the knowledge that we have all been responsibl­e for creating a weekend of wonderful memories for the 140 odd children who visited Glynn-Barntown parish.

To the Glynn-Barntown boys and girls who took part in Féile na nGael 2017 over the weekend we would like to express the club’s great sense of pride in you all as excellent ambassador­s for our parish. We hope you will cherish the memories of this weekend.

We’d like to express a big thank you to all the host families and all families involved in Féile na nGael 2017 in the parish. Your support for the club and courtesy towards our visitors was exceptiona­l.

We’d also like to thank the wonderful club people who did not have children involved in Féile but still gave up their free time to help. So much work has gone into making the club ‘Féile ready’ and so many have been involved – THANK YOU.

Glynn-Barntown GAA and camogie club expresses huge appreciati­on towards our FÉILE COMMITTEE 2017 who have worked tirelessly to bring to fruition the successful club event we witnessed over the last few days. The amount of work required to make this weekend a success cannot be measured. The committee were Paudie Berry, Fiona Hayes, Annette Hillis, Angela Finn, Róisín Doyle, Sarah Butler, Colette Carley, Suzanne Goff, Aideen Buckley and Pascal Cooney.

A final thank you to the dedicated mentors who got the teams prepared for Féile na nGael 2017, working so hard for many months to hone the skills of over 70 children and prepare them for the event. Well done managers Mickey Laffan, Shane Carley, PJ Gaynor, Pascal Cooney, Georgina Roche and your super backroom teamsll.

Well done to our under-eight football team who played two great matches against the Shels on Thursday evening.
