Major international award win for Carrigbyrne Farmhouse Cheeses
WEXFORD cheesemakers scooped a bronze medal at Mondial du Fromage, an international cheese fair.
Carrigbryne Farmhouse Cheeses won a bronze medal in the soft cheese with washed rind category for their Humming Bark Cheese.
Founded by Paddy and Julie Berridge over three decades ago Carrigbyrne Farmhouse Cheeses is now run by Paddy’s daughter Jenny and her husband Dave Maslen.
Humming Bark Cheese has recently been developed by Paddy and Charlie. It is a semisoft cheese with a strong nose and full-flavoured taste. Aged in spruce bark and produced with only the finest milk, this cheese has already been awarded Reserve Champion at both Irish Cheese Awards the British Cheese Awards in 2014, along with Great Taste Awards in both 2015 snf 2016. Humming Bark is not for the faint hearted and a connoisseurs delight.
In total, six Irish cheese companies travelled with Bord Bia to France earlier last week for the world’s leading cheese and dairy trade show to showcase the very best of Irish cheese production. Exhibiting on Bord Bia’s Origin Green stand, were cheesemakers; Cooleeney Cheese, Cahill’s Farm Cheese, The Little Milk Company, Cashel Farmhouse Cheesemakers, Durrus Cheese, and Carrigbyrne Farmhouse Cheeses.
In addition to Carrigbyrne Farmhouse Cheese securing the bronze award Cashel Farmhouse Cheesemakers were successful in the Sheep Milk Blue Cheese category, winning a Super Gold Medal for their Crozier Blue Cheese and Cahill’s Farm Cheese won a Silver Medal in the uncooked pressed cheeses category for their Vintage Cheddar.
Mondial du Fromage showcased over 170 exhibitors from 10 different countries at the Vinci International Congress Centre in Tours, France.
