-

A large crowd attended the funeral Mass and burial of Ann Hannon in St Fintan’s Church and Cemetery, Taghmon, testament to her popularity and the high esteem in which she was held in Taghmon and surrounding communities.

Ann, from Coolcull, Taghmon, passed away in her family home, in the early hours of Saturday, July 29, surrounding those most dear to her, her loving family.

Ann received her education in Taghmon NS and Traceystown NS and then in the Presentation Secondary School, Wexford.

It was in these schools that Ann decided to dedicate her life to teaching.

She received her teaching training in Careysfort Teacher Training College, and qualified as a primary teacher in 1972.

She started her career in St Fintan’s Primary School in Taghmon where she taught for 36 years, before retiring as a teacher and vice principal in 2008.

Ann was very involved in the local community.

She was a founder member of the Taghmon Camross Ladies Football Club; she was a long serving member of the management at Taghmon Camross GAA Club and was bingo co-ordinator for many, many years.

Ann was also secretary of the parish committee, having served on this committee with three parish priests, the late Fr McCormick, Fr Brennan and Fr Gorman. Ann worked tirelessly on all these committees and gave of her time generously.

Ann’s love for the GAA and fitness was evident from the amount of time that she spent in the GAA grounds.

When she retired from coaching and managing ladies football teams, she would still be spotted around the grounds supporting and encouraging the teams.

She enjoyed her daily morning walk with friends on the walkway. Ann also enjoyed cycling.

Despite battling illness since 2012, Ann was always in good humour and continued to be active and involved in the community.

She had a positive outlook on life and battled her illness with dignity and courage. Her greatest joy during this period was the birth of her three grandchildren, who she adored.

Ann is survived by her loving husband, Paul, sons, Chris and Brian, daughter, Catriona, daughters in law, Valerie and Cathy, son-in-law Paddy, grandchildren, Annabelle, Ava and James, brothers, Jim and Liam, sisters, Patricia, Margaret and Eileen, aunt, uncle, cousins, and a wide circle of friends.

Ann’s month’s mind Mass will take place on Saturday, September 2, in St Fintan’s Church, Taghmon at 7.30 p.m.
