FOUR FANTASTIC DAYS OF FUN

-

EXCITEMENT is mounting in Kilmore as preparations are finalised ahead of the 3rd Annual Kilmore Village Spud Fest.

Taking place from Friday, August 11, to Monday, August 14, the festival is building on the success of the past two years and organisers hope to raise much-needed funds for the local national school in Kilmore, Scoil Réalt na Mara Parents’ Association, and begin a fund towards the development of a new playground in Kilmore village.

Kilmore Village Spud Fest promises four fantastic days of fun events to suit all ages, the majority free of charge thanks to the generosity of local sponsors and support of our wonderful volunteers. What better way to spend one of the last weekends of the summer than joining in the family fun in Kilmore village.

The opening parade takes place on Friday night with a kiddies parade winding its way through Kilmore village.

Featuring the Bloco Garman drummers and St Patrick’s Fife and Drum Band, the parade ends in the festival marquee with a free kids’ disco party and draw for great family prizes. Fancy dress optional. Assembly for the parade is at 6.45 p.m. at Kilmore National School. The kiddies disco ends at 9.30 p.m.

On Saturday it’s Party in the Páirc from (3 p.m. to 9 p.m.) in the festival site in the heart of Kilmore village, promising to serve up an afternoon of music and fun for all the family.

Local bands will entertain, with bouncy castles for the kids, plus BBQ and full bar. Bring a picnic and relax for the afternoon, and with the festival marquee the show will go on even if it rains. Tickets at only €5 are on sale at the gate.

A highlight of the day, and a key fundraiser for the festival, is the Mr Spud ‘Beauty’ Pageant at which the local lads will donning fake nails and sequins and strutting their stuff from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the festival marquee. Sunday afternoon from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. will bring all the fun of a traditional Festival Field Day with kiddies races, pony rides, face painting, steam engines, tea rooms and cake sale, candy floss, cones, popcorn, BBQ , bouncy castles, tug-of-war, Spud Challenges, horse shoe throwing and much more.

Admission is free and funds raised on the day will go to the national school P.A. and proposed village playground.

Having opened the festival with the younger generation, the festival ends on Monday with a free Party Evening of food, music and entertainment for Kilmore and surrounding parish seniors and active retirement groups including a guest appearance from the Dublin Ukulele Band.
