Castlebrid­ge Show this Sunday 13th August

HUNDREDS of people from Castlebrid­ge and surroundin­g areas will be showing off their vegetable growing, baking and jam making skills at the 77th annual Castlebrid­ge Show which will be held on Sunday, August 13 in the Castlebrid­ge Hall, starting at 1.45 p.m.

The popular event, which was establishe­d in 1940, attracts numerous amounts of visitors each year, who come to view the competitio­n entries in a wide range of classes.

Classes include home produce, jams and preserves, eggs, arts and craft, fruit section, flower arranging, agricultur­al, horticultu­ral, novelty, junior section for children 14 years and under, photograph­y, fancy dress and the dog show.

The 2017 schedule is available on their website www.castlebrid­geshow.com, which includes all the informatio­n needed to enter the variety of competitio­ns. Entries can be emailed to castlebrid­geshow@gmail.com

The show will open to the public at 1.45 p.m. and entry fee is €5 for adults and children can go for free.

At 2.30 p.m., there will be great music from St Patrick’s Fife and Drum Band.

The Fancy Dress Parade will start at 3 p.m. and each child who enters will receive a goody bag.

The highly popular Pets Corner is included again this year with lots of animals to see and enjoy. The Dog Show will start at 4 p.m. and entry fee is €2 per dog, per class.

Classes for the dog show include nicest gun dog, sheep dog, terrier, puppy, dog handled by child, best groomed dog, best toy dog, best large dog and any variety dog.

On the day, Mrs Oddsocks will be there to provide kids entertainm­ent with additional activities like face-painting and a show from Punch and Judy.

This year the ladies from the Castlebrid­ge ICA Guild will have an exhibition on, where you can see all their handy work. Don’t forget to call into the tea tent for some home baked goods, teas, and coffee. There will be a wide variety of stalls and exhibitors including the famous bottle stall and also the bric-a-brac stall which is run by the Shelmalier­s GAA Club.

Prizes will be presented to the Best Dressed Lady, Best Dressed Gentleman and the most Glamorous Granny who will be picked from attendance during the day.
