Fruitful trip to Mallow for unbeat

THE WEXFORD county Under-15 camogie developmen­t squad had a fruitful trip to Mallow recently, going unbeaten in their four games against strong Munster opposition.

Wexford 3-1, Tipperary 1-4: Tipperary came out strong in the opening few minutes to make their mark and it took Wexford a while to settle into the game.

Tipp got the opening score but Wexford levelled through a Lisa Kelly free. Tipperary had a good passage of play up the field and caught Wexford on the hop with a soft goal, but this just drove Wexford on and they levelled through a goal from Anna Kavanagh.

The girls pushed on from here with great defending from Olive McGarry, Ella Foley and Muireann Fitzpatric­k, who was catching high balls like Lee Chin in the half-back line.

Tipperary got three more points before Wexford went on the attack. Maeve Sinnott got a goal and Lisa Kelly added another to get the win.

Wexford 4-4, Limerick 0-1: This was a tough physical game and the scoreline doesn’t do the Limerick girls justice as they attacked every chance they got. However, sterling performanc­es from Aine Murphy and Niamh Cogley in midfield and Yvonne Kelly on the wing saw Limerick dispossess­ed, and long balls driven into Molly Crowdle and Sarah O’Donoghue resulted in them scoring 1-2.

Anna Kavanagh at full-forward added another two goals to her tally, while Deirbhile Ní Cheallaigh also scored a goal. With Wexford now on top, Lisa Kelly added two points to get a convincing win.
