The late Margaret Furlong was a popular and friendly shopkeeper

-

MARGARET Furlong (nee Duggan) passed away peacefully on July 26 at Beaumont Hospital.

Born to the late Jack and Stella Duggan of Bride Street, Margaret had a beautiful childhood growing up with her siblings.

At the young age of 10 or 11 she started to help her grandmother out in her shop in Bride Street, this is where her love of shops started.

A few years later she met the late Tom Furlong who she later married and they had three children, Melanie, Sharon and Declan.

Margaret started to work in the shop in Whitemill Road 44 years ago where she worked alongside her daughter Sharon the past 30 years.

The ‘Mini Market’ was Margaret’s life where she loved the chats and banter with all her loyal customers. She loved style and fashion and to keep herself well she had her hair done in her daughter Melanie’s salon twice a week.

Later in life she met her partner Peter and they enjoyed many holidays and going to dances together.

She also adored her dog Mia even after she ate the wallpaper off the walls.

Margaret loved her grandson TJ and his daughter Lola calling to see her, as well as her brothers and sisters calling in for chats and tea. Margaret’s sister Caroline has two boys Jack and Corey who always called her nanny.

Margaret is sadly missed by her daughters Melanie and Sharon, son Declan, grandson TJ, great-granddaughter Lola, her partner Peter, brothers Sean and Patrick, sisters Caroline, Eithna, Majella and Jackie, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
