BEREAVEMEN­TS

Sincere Sympathy is extended to Eugene Brennan on the death of his mother Patricia (Patty), Station Road, Rosslare Harbour which occurred on July 13 Born in Tacumshane, Patty moved to Rosslare Hbr with her husband Séamus many years ago. She was a very gentle lady and always had a smile for everyone she met. Patty’s funeral Mass was celebrated by Fr Diarmuid Desmond in St Patrick’s Church. She is very sadly missed by Eugene, her sister Mona McCormack and brother Nick Power, Kilrane., brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces, relatives and friends. Patty’s husband Séamus predecease­d her.

The news of the unexpected death of Jack Pettit, Rathmore, Broadway, has caused deep shock and sadness over the whole area. Jack was son to Julie and Liam and brother to David. We offer our deepest sympathy to all his family including his parents, brother, grandparen­ts Seán, Hannie and Lily, cousins, Aunts and Uncles relatives and many many friends. Jack was laid to rest in Our Lady’s Island Cemetery after funeral Mass in the Church of the Assumption celebrated by Fr Brendan Nolan.

ACTIVE RETIREMENT

On August 17 at 3 p.m. there is bingo and tea in Hotel Rosslare.

URGENT – We are required to confirm the bookings for the 2017 holiday by September 1, at the latest. It is essential that we have final payments and confirmati­on of rooms required ASAP. Mairead/Jim will be in the Hotel Rosslare on Friday, August 18, and Friday, August 25, between 11 a.m. and midday. Or contact Mairead at 053 9133702 or Jim at 053 9133291. If final payments and confirmati­ons are not received by September 1 we will not be guaranteed rooms in the Connemara Coast Hotel.

ROSSLARE RANGERS

Schoolboys/girls registrati­on is taking place on Tuesday and Thursday evening from 6.30 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturday morning from 10 a.m. to midday.

We have Boys’ teams from under-nine (born in 2009/2010) to under-16s (born in 2002) and girls under-12 (born in 2006) and under-14 (born in 2004).

All players must attend to complete forms with their parent/ guardian. Any new players wishing to join please come along too.

RNLI NEWS

A big thank you to all who supported our recent RNLI barbecue in Ballytrent. A huge turnout on the evening/night ensured that much needed funds were raised for our branch. With the attendance swelling throughout the evening and with a wide ranging selection of food and drink available for all, along with top class entertainm­ent – a great evening/ night was enjoyed by all present.

Thanks to all who supported the event by way of buying tickets, to all who volunteere­d in the preparatio­n in lead up to the barbecue and during the barbecue itself, to all our sponsors and all who sponsored food, drink and prizes for the raffle.

A special word of thanks to Jamie Ryan for the use of his grounds and premises of Ballytrent House. As always, the surroundin­gs were in pristine condition and there was certainly no better location for our barbecue. A final total on funds raised is currently being tallied and will be published shortly.

‘SAVING LIVES AT SEA’ – We are delighted to have been informed that the second series of the BBC program ‘Saving Lives at Sea’ has been commission­ed. The first show of this series will air on BBC two at 8 p.m. on Wednesday, August 16. Each program will be one hour long and the series will run for 12 weeks till Wednesday, November 1. Each programme will be aired for one hour and there will be Irish interest with Kinsale RNLI being filmed in one of their dramatic rescues. A program not to be missed.
