Recruits sought for Reserve Defence Forces

THE Reserve Defence Forces are looking for new recruits to join E Company 3rd Battalion based in Wexford town and covering the entire county.

The RDF is suitable for men and women of all background­s who are fit and motivated and enjoy working as part of a team. Applicants must be aged 18 and under 35 years.

An informatio­n evening will be held in the Wexford Barracks in Barrack Street, Wexford from 7.30 pm to 9.30 pm on Wednesday, August 23 and everyone inerested is invited to attend. The RDF arecurrent­ly recruiting online at military.ie. for more informatio­n telephone the Wexford Army Barracks on 053 9174032 between 9am and 4.30 pm.

As part-time soldiers, recruits will receive training in military tactics, weapons and first aid. A major part of recruit training is learning how to use the Steyr 5.56 assault rifle.

Many people use the reserve foces as a stepping stone into fulltime careers in the regular Army and An Garda Siochána.

E Company is based in Wexford Barracks and has an establishe­d strength of approximat­ely 110 members.

As a reserve unit, the RDF are often tasked to assist regular units in the provision of logistical support, the provision of armed escorts, staffing of military posts during periods of Permanent Defence Forces deployment, radiologic­al monitoring, ceremonial duties at national and local level, assisting the Naval Service in fishery protection patrols and as an aid to the civil power.
