Trump, Brexit and cake time in New Ross

THE KENNEDY SUMMER SCHOOL runs from Thursday, September 7, to Saturday, September 9, in New Ross, with a world class line-up of over 35 speakers debating the issues of the day.

Brexit and Ireland’s relationship with the US will feature prominently.

The summer school have also gathered a panel of leading historians to assess the legacy of President

John F. Kennedy, 100 years on from his birth and will come to a close with an audience with

Special guests Paul Kelly executive pastry chef at the Merrion Hotel and judge on the hit TV show ‘The Great Irish Bakeoff’, Kevin Dundon, Mike O’Conor Assistant Head, School of Culinary Arts & Food Technology at Dublin Institute of Technology and Margaret Roche Head Chef at Hugo Restaurant in Dublin will collaborate to host the tea party in the famous farmyard in New Ross. Tickets to this event are €12.50. The opening night takes place on Thursday, September 7, at 8 p.m. at St Michael’s Theatre and it will be by Katherine Zappone, Minister for Children and Youth Affairs, followed by a public interview with columnist and barrister Noel Whelan.

This will be followed by a special screening of Condemned to Remember about Irish holocaust survivor Tomi Reichental.

Deputy Paisley will have much to discuss at 8.30 p.m. on Friday, September 8, while Cody Keenan will speak about his work writing some of Barack Obama’s most memorable speeches, an hour previously, at 7.30 p.m. That evening a panel discussion on the theme Brexit & Borders takes place in St Michael’s Theatre at 6 p.m. Panellists include Bertie Ahern, Mark Durkan, Verona Murphy and Tony Connelly.

There are several talks on Irish and American politics on Saturday and at 4.30 p.m. American political heavy weights and John McGuirk will debate on the theme ‘Donald Trump and the US Presidency’.

At 8 p.m., at St Michael’s Theatre, the closing event takes place – an audience with Late Late Show host Ryan Tubridy on JFK and much more.
