John Brady was busy over the last few weeks playing in two major events. In the boys’ Home Internationals John scored 3.5 points out of six. In the British Boys’ open championship in Scotland he had two disappointing rounds and failed to reach the matchplay stages.
Sincere sympathy is extended to the Cooke family on the death of Seán last week. Seán, a long-serving and popular Dublin member, died after a long illness.
He was predeceased by his wife, Carrie, a former prominent member of the club some years ago. May they rest in peace.

WEXFORD
Tuesday’s Seniors competition was a four-person scramble event over 14 holes. The victorious team consisted of the prolific winner Billy Roche, Seán Moynihan, Lar Kenny and the baby of the pack, Ray Murphy, with 43.6.
The second-placed team with 44.5 were Con Pierce, Ger Mulhall, Rich Pierce and the recently-retired Tom Sullivan.
The third-placed team with an average age in the hundreds and a score of 44.51 were Paddy O’Reilly, Seán Ormonde, Aiden Cogley and Pascal Whitmore.
Wednesday’s competition was 14-hole fourball and the winners were David Farrell and Richard Buggy with 35 points.
Sarsfields G.F.C. held their annual golf competition on Saturday in the form of a singles and team event. The singles winner was Paul Harrington with 39 points.
Second was Paul Bridges with 38 points and third was Fran Thomas on 37 points. The team event was won by Paul Harrington, Paul Moran and Philip Cullen on 39 points.
The non-G.U.I. prize was won by Philip Cullen with a great score of 41 points.

ROSSLARE LADIES
On Tuesday, August 15, we held our very own Solheim Cup. It was an open competition, costing only €10 per head.
It was a team of four, with fourball on the front nine holes and singles for the back nine holes - cumulative scores on all to count. The timesheet was completely full with ladies coming from all over.
There was also a prize for best dressed team. The competition for this was as stiff as for the golf itself - ladies had dragged out stars, stripes, reds, blues, yellows and whites from the bottom of their wardrobes and beyond; and decked themselves accordingly from head to toe which all added to the atmosphere.
First came Rhona Coman (17), Cora Ryan (34), Vonnie Kelly (10) and Ger Lambert (14) with a very impressive 112 points - well done ladies. But just as big a well done to Mary Barry, Mary Frances Codd, Catherine Haugh and Edel Dunleavy on winning the best dressed team. A great fun day was had by all!
Best of luck to Teresa Cowman and Susan Evans who are playing in Malahide this week, having qualified earlier in the year in the Countess of Granard competition to represent the club.
Tuesday, August 29, will be a singles stableford competition sponsored by Joyces Expert Electrical. They will be demonstrating their new Dyson hairdryer in the clubhouse and models are welcome.

WEXFORD LADIES
Unfortunately the Seniors competition was called off last Monday, August 14, due to inclement weather.
Seventy-six ladies played in Thursday’s competition, which was an 18 holes stableford sponsored by Sam McCauley Chemist. Congratulations to all the winners.
Results: 1, Martina Gately (17), 35 points; 2, Ursula Carey (30), 34 points; 3, Deirdre Colfer (24), 33 points (back nine). Irene Bolger (10) won the gross prize with 24 points and Theresa Kehoe (16) won the Senior prize with 33 points. The nine-hole competition was won by Noreen Power (16) with 16 points. Nearest the pin was Lily Rowe with 2 ft. 3 inches.
Last Saturday, August 19, 24 ladies made the annual trip to Athy Golf Club to play in their Solheim Cup competition. Unfortunately there were no Wexford winners, but there was lots of fun and a great day was had by all.
The Solheim Cup Open competition comes to Wexford this Thursday, August 24. There are still slots available so get your name down.
This year’s ladies’ golfer of the year competition could not be tighter at the top. Currently there is a two-way tie for first place between Leonie Furlong and Deirdre Colfer, both with 47 points. The competition ends on October 5.
Please note that the Scotch foursomes Eleanor Conway Trophy competition will now take place on Thursday, August 31. The timesheet is open for those wishing to play on Saturday, August 26.
