Gold stars for Wexford Food Family members

THE HIGH quality of food produced right across County Wexford has been acknowledg­ed once again with ten members of the Wexford Food Family receiving gold stars in the Internatio­nal Great Taste Awards 2017.

Organised by the Guild of Fine Food in the UK, the awards are the benchmark of fine food and see a total of more than 12,000 products tested by over 500 expert judges over 62 days.

There were plenty of celebratio­ns across the Sunny South East for a range of local producers who were singled out for the praise of this year’s judges. There were two gold stars from Ballycross Apple Farm for their Dunnes Stores Simply Better Irish Pressed Pure Wexford Apple Juice. Fancy Fungi scooped a gold star for their Fresh Grey Oyster Mushrooms, as did Isle of Crackers for their Flaxseed cracker with black olive.

There were two gold stars for Killowen Farm for their Greek Style Yoghurt with Wexford Rhubarb and a further star for their Wexford Blackcurra­nt Compote and Greek Style Yoghurt with Blueberry Compote. There were also stars fro Meadowfiel­d Farm’s Fresh Goats Milk, Naturally Coridal’s Wexford Blackcurra­nt and Lemon & Lime; Tasty Parlour’s Brown Farmhouse Loaf and Wild About for thir Rockin’ & Rosehip Marrowmala­de, Wild Garlic & Pesto and Serra Da Estrela Mountain Honey.

O’Neills Dry Cure Bacon won two gold stars for their Dry Cured Back Rashers and one star for their Dry Cured Back Bacon Joint, while Wexford Home Preserves cleaned up with two gold stars for their Clementine Marmalade and Handmade Seville Orange Marmalade and one star for their blackcurra­nt jam and handmade raspberry preserve.

Other winners included Ballyhack Smokehouse and Stafford’s Bakery. The Wexford Food Family congratula­ted all its winners and encouraged the whole county to enjoy the delicious delicacies available on our own doorstep!
